Hitachi CP-88R BNIB!!!

mrp32dave - 2010-03-05 17:05

Found this on Ebay USA a Hitachi CP-88R BNIB and it is new and had never been used it needed new belts which I have replaced, a service manual would have been nice a fiddly job especially the FF and RW belt which was under the circuit board, I had to search my home for belts as they are both very short and thick section, found one the right size for the capstan the FF and RW was a bit more difficult, eventually found one in a CD drawer mechanism that worked well. The only downside is it was sold with the original headphones missing, but these are availiable from Partstore, one other thing the carry case which is rubberised fabric had started to degrade and become sticky and some of the surface had stuck to the packaging leaving white areas and the more I handled it the more damage was occuring, so I decided urgent action was neede to save it, I coloured the white areas with a water based permanent marker which worked well, but how to stabalize the rubber in the end I made 10% PVA and water solution and coated it with this, let it soak for a minute wiped of the excess with a damp lint free cloth and left it to dry, as the pictures will show this worked nicely the sticky surface has gone and is durable again.
I think this was a bargain I paid less than £50 for it, strangely only one other bidder and not many looks?
Here's the pictures:

Wow! That is sweet, and it's so tiny.

Astounding Find... a collector in his lifetime is lucky to find just ONE or two truly New In Box RARE players and you certainly have. That Hitachi ranks in the top 20 early 80's all time best list for me! Great engineering achievement with the great additional modules. Not to mention a FANTASTIC looking unit... I am truly jealous.
How does it sound ? ( ranked of course against early 80's models)

John thanks, it really is good to have a rare unit like this and even more so BNIB I still can't understand why the price didn't go way beyond my means, only 62 page views on a 7 day listing only 3 bids and 2 were mine?????
Well whatever the reasons they made it possible for me to own this fantastic machine a collectors dream.

Only one way to describe this. WOW!

Makes me wonder about something, I am selling some of my out of box units, and two of them people would want, let I have no bids, just alot of watchers, have a 100% feedback and sold a few items in the past.

What I am beginning to think is some of these sellers, have people they know to bid on these items just so they can bring the prices up, because everytime I see these auctions I alway see a 0 feedback bidder ? Isn't shill bidding illegal on eBay I notice the honest sellers don't get nowhere as high "case in point your Hitachi CP-88R nib", as some of these crap seller which are mostly "powerseller". Every time you buy something from them, it's never in the condition they say it is, reason why I only buy NIB's now.

in the last few months bidding is really "strange". i do see alot of those 0 feedback bidders also. on the other hand i also see alot of new interest on this web site. one thing is a pattern of late month buying. it's like people are just waiting for there paychecks. my best buys have been by far near the end of the month. there really are just to many 0 feedback bidders to account for the newbies on ebay. does anybody know for sure what ebays policy is on schill bidders ? i also think that some of the very high end players are not really paying what it looks to be.. i have delt with true collectors from the sellers side for 15 years back in the 1980's to the mid 1990's. true collectors are really cheap and will desperately try to buy at the lowest price. it matters not whether they are rich or poor. on ebay lately i see some bidding where price seems to be no object. i can tell you by 15 years of experience, those bidders are not the collectors i remember well.

The only Hitachi worth having in my opinion & with all the trimmings too. You're amassing quite a strong collection.
