Sony WM-10RV

I just got this in the mail. Very nice player, it could be in better shape. It's missing a few screws and a little dented on the corner. But I think with a new belt, it'll play great. I think it's a fairly low serial number too. Enjoy the pics.

Hi ya David, yes low serial number mine is 90,170. This is certainly one of the best Sony collectible Walkman. You have a beauty. A very unique and over engineered mechanism for the door. Nice sounding player. Yours looks overall in nice condition, they all mostly have dents on back side it seems metal case is thin. It actually came sold only in Japan with the additional circuitry and pick up for CTP-1A AM/FM tuner module ( yours and rest of world release had a plastic plate to left near edge on head side for pick up metal contacts of radio). I got lucky some time ago and got mine from a lady in France who bought her WM-40 in Japan and had the original CTP-1A tuner module. Little known fact on these. They have FM/AM and several Japanese characters on clear face of door to identify.

Thank you for the compliments. Once I replace the belt, it should play great and I can't wait to see how great it sounds. I took the old belt out which was a little gooey but not to the point where it couldn't be taken out easily. I hate it when the belt is completely gooey and then I have to basically wipe it off until all of it's gone.

One thing I've noticed about the CTP-1A; It sure was sold with a lot of players in 1984-1986. The one's I know of so far would be the Sony WM-R15, Sony WM-40 (also known as WM-10RV), WM-W800, WM-55, and I'm sure there's more. I kinda wonder why they did that considering they could easily put it into the cassette door (Sony WM-F10, WM-F10 MKII). But anyway, these are just my thoughts.

I must dig mine out. Bought it new, from lasky`s 1982? Still remember seeing it in the display cabinet, along with other coloured one`s. Mine needs a new belt. Still have the destruction manual for it.

Ric, you never mentioned your WM-40, is it boxed?

I agree, it's like old times having Conrad & yourself on the bill at the same times. To be honest, I suspect all three of us are passive bystanders these days.

WM-10RV is the basic version, WM-40 is the more expensive version that is only found in Japan.

Er, not really.  The WM-40 and the WM-10RV are identical in every way.  One is for the Asian market and the other for the West.

The former have the radio circuits, the latter does not.
