mrp32dave - 2008-12-21 07:39

I got this very rare and very nice Saisho PS50 recently and just got round to fitting a new belt what a nightmare, not really designed to be easily serviced.I still can't get it receive FM just hisses but AM works fine.It now plays tapes very well and records fine and is surprisingy loud through its built in speakers.
Here's the pictures I really like it.

Pretty little box! Smile

nice photos...i never saw one of those before. i have 2 players right now with the same problem. the am is fine and the fm doesn't work. both of them are mini boom-boxes too. i wish it were the other way around with the fm working.

What a nice machine you have there mr32Dave. Looks like it does everything in such a tiny package!
Is it me or does that look surprisingly similar to the Aiwa CS-J1?

At first I thought the Saisho may have been an exercise in badge engineering. (However I compared the location of the sockets and rotary controls at the end - and have come to the conclusion that they must have different circuit boards). I think it may be possible that the designer of the Saisho had one on his desk when he came up with this - and also spotted what I think was one thing missing from the almost do it all - Aiwa - speakers.

Hi phil1212 the Saisho does sort of look similar to Aiwa CS-J1,and I think it's nice too, here a photo of them together.

I like it alot and the built in stereo speakers are unusual and really good surprisingly loud but no real bass of course but still good.

Those are really nice! Cool

I love the aiwa very much! Smile

Hi mrp32Dave,
Its cool that you've got the Aiwa too! They look very similar when together!

Hi Walkgirl,
Thanks for compliments on the Aiwa! It was an ebay score that I fixed up. There is also an outer fabric casing that has saved it from getting scratched and has no doubt looked after the machine admirably over the years.

Very similar in styling but sadly very different in quality.

The Aiwa is one of the finest walkmans ever built with recording quality to die for.

Sorry, have to show mine...

Hi Fellow Audiophiles!

This is my first time on this site and got to it by trying to find out about my lovely Saisho PS 50 I just bought today at a carboot sale in Par, Cornwall......it was an absolute steal for just £1.00. It could do with a darned good clean but otherwise it's good-to-go. Now it's the second portable I have in my collection, the other is my darling Sony WM-1 - I'm sure I've still got the bruises on my hip from wearing it when I was a lad!

Nice to meet you all,
Craig

hi craig, welcome to the board.
you'll find lank "idiots" here sharing your passion for the one or other odd old walkman !

that Saisho PS-50 ROCKS ! i do have one, also, but - there'll be not many other even here - knowing about it... anyway, a nice little gem, carry on and don't struggle on your way, make up what you like and don't just fall for the good old "must-have"-trip...

Welcome aboard Craig, you may find like many of us collecting them is addicting... been on a buying binge last 2 weeks actually had 3 walkmans arrive same day a First. A WM-F10 my second with headphones , WM-EX5 pristine not a mark on her, and lastly a WM-WE01 Wireless snagged out of Australia.
Will be adding to my Sony post this week additions including a near perfect DC2 no click verified by 35 year Sony Tech works for DC2 owner and he owns audio equipment shop that father started in 40's.
Cant wait for it to arrive and see how it sounds. I have the WM-F1 like your WM-1 a great example of the 3rd Sony Walkman. ( wm-2 came after the TPS-L2) The Saisho and Aiwa grand examples of earliest Walkmans. Sadly neither are in my collection.

I love too cassette players with built-in speaker(s), here is one radio-cassette recorder I catch yesterday in a garage sale just in front of my house. A GENERAL SOUND GS-601 for only 4 dlls. Full working condition.
