I got a sony minidisc player.. the question is if the MD player is considered to be a walkman just like the tape player/ or it should be categorized different from the tape players walkmans. maybe I should as everyone?

The audio cassette remains a key aspect of a 'walkman' whether we like it or not.

"A 'Walkman' is a portable stereo device capable of playing audio cassettes".

We have to draw the line otherwise

I feel sorry for the minidisc player, it came just as the cd player was getting boring & what do you know, three years later the mp3 came along. That said, they had the best sound quality.

Why is there MD walkman written on my walkmans then? Red Face

You are right Agentorange, Minidisk walkmans have
the best sound!!! Cool

My personal Walkman criteria was a "yes" answer to the question "Is the primary function of the device playback via headphones?"
That included the likes of CD-Discmen, even iPods (but not mobile phones) & even bending the rules a bit for the odd mono walkman-like dictaphone.

Still, you're the captain Wink

...it's a bit like that old chestnut "what makes a boombox a boombox" which does the rounds upstairs every year or so...

I think it's a matter of how one person classifies a device as a walkman. Some may view the Mini disk as a walkman, I have many minidisk players myself and I consider it a walkman but I think the true walkman is the cassette player
