AIWA HS-G08 Black boxed, NOS

walkman.archive - 2011-12-24 05:04

I still can't believe it: I recently got this amazing unit on what I think it's a "once in a life opportunity".

Unbeliveablely, it's absolutely mint, even the box! And it seems to work, except for the need of a new belt, which soon will get replaced and the foam of the headphones.

I was tempted to bid on this one. You got it very cheap indeed. Unfortunately my funds were low with Christmas just around the corner. Very nice indeed!

Arrgghhh, that is a beauty.  Great pics too.

Congrats Hugo,

Who say's Santa isn't real?? Looks like he brought you an early present!

walkman.archive - 2011-12-24 23:49

Oh, yes, it seems Santa passed near me these days ;-)

The most incredible thing of that, after completing the transaction, is that the seller had another one, this time silver and without box, and I got this too! And it's also *completely new*! The body is absolutely perfect!!
So, I'm happy to have now both the silver and black as new. And very soon I'll have the red too, so I'll complete the full G08 series. I'll update with photos then ;-)

Happy christmas, guys.

That is really lucky, and utterly pretty.

corry - 2011-12-26 12:17

I was made the seller a "Buy it now "offer. I think yours was better !!!

walkman.archive - 2011-12-27 01:45

It was a bit strange, indeed. The seller started the auction but a bit later he closed it unexpectedly. I wrote him to ask what happened and he told me he was receiving many offers.

I was surprised too the he didn't publish it again with an "make an offer" button.

As I bought him the first one, he asked me if I want to make an offer. I knew I maybe have to offer a lot, but I first started saying "the same" (in fact, the same money for the same item without box is not a bad offer, right?), and he quickly accepted...

And that's all... so this time I was so lucky ;-)

i remember clearly this walkman being sold in the stores with that box...i liked it but didnt want it cause i wanted the recording features and all the bells and whistles a walkman could have....so i bought HJ-600 but in silver loved that walkman!!...nice site by the way hurodal on the archived walkmans and good score on that aiwa, amazing!!...keep them coming...

Wow- just... wow. To have those! Amazing. When Walkmans were Walkmans ("Walkman" is all inclusive here).

Sometimes you just get lucky and get 2 of the most collectable units imaginable. Those are the brass ring for me.

Merry Christmas indeed!!

Great walkman find and wonderful pictures.

That is a great aiwa!, is it mint?

Have such a aiwa hs 08 or so, it as okay before, but now the sound is really really weak!,

have to turn it fully open to hear a bit sound

walkman.archive - 2012-01-02 09:30

Yeah, those are so great walkmans. For me the G08 is one of the best walkmans ever, which represent a huge step ahead of its time.

Of course, the J08 was thier bigger brother with radio and recorder too, but I like the G08 the most, as I find the record function of many walkmans pretty unusable (to record from anothe audio source), because of their low quality and auto gain. Also, I don't listen to traditional radio, but sometimes to internet radio.

Also, I find its design very stylish and simple and elegant. The G08 and the P07 are some of the most beautiful units over there, don't you think?

Weak sound from your AIWA? It'll need new capacitors to replace the old ones.

walkgirl - 2012-01-02 10:37

How expensive is that?, and where do I buy them?

plop - 2012-01-02 10:44

The capacitors are generally not that expensive, but the postage can be expenisve since the best place for getting them is USA.

Plus you need someone experienced in doing this sort of work to replace them.

walkgirl - 2012-01-02 11:14

Who would that be and how many €€€ will I lose?

plop - 2012-01-02 11:39

Don't you know anyone in The Netherlands that repair walkman?

philmurray - 2012-07-10 18:10

Truly a lucky man this was the first walkman i ever owned, kick myself now because i gave it away to a friend when i was a teenager, very foolish. now ive been hunting for one for 20 years

stan - 2014-05-27 10:19

Hi, where did you end up getting the belt (s) as I cannot locate them?

antiroll - 2015-02-13 18:17

I'd also love to know about where to source a belt for the HS G08/G500.
