For those AIWA lovers: a mint J08

walkman.archive - 2012-01-16 14:02

Hi there,

I recently took one of my J08 to my technician for repair belts and other minor problems. This unit is in near mint condition, except the front door, that had so many small scratches.

For my BIG surprise, when I went to take it, the technician had replaced the door for an original, brand-new one!!
So, instantly, my J08 becomed an almost Mint unit. Both sides with buttons are in excellent condition, but the rear side shows some minor scuffs still :-(

I thought it's worth to see how beautiful it is now. It's the first time I see all those diagonal lines in the front door of a J08 in perfect condition. BTW: the door shows the "J500", which I don't know if it's the asian denomination or what. Maybe some of you can help with this...

I know there are a few AIWA lovers here, and the J08 can be considered undoubtely a "must-have" unit for any serious collector. The problem is that they are sooo rare and to find a unit in mint condition is really near impossible.

I love stories like this though I have to ask, what kind of technician has a spare NOS J08 door 'hanging around'?

Agent, you silver unit looks great too. is it in near mint condition, right?

This technician is an experienced and specialized in walkmans technician that worked for 30 years repairing AIWA walkmans. So it's and truly AIWA walkman technician. He told me he has still parts at home. No one asks him for walkmans nowadays, except me

He is now retired (I don't know if it's the proper word; I mean: he is 66 years old, no he doesn't work, just do little works for friends) but he likes so much to repair walkmans and radios. Is the passion of his life, as he said.

I'm lucky enough that he lives near me, at my same city. :-)

66, yes, sounds like he's retired, indeed a great find, hang onto him.

Never noticed our units are different colours, that is interesting.  This is my favourite Aiwa of them all, just stuffed with goodies and stylish to match.  I just wish it was all metal and didn't have the plastic back.  Oh, does it take 2x AAA batteries too, which is odd.
