The world's unique and ultra-rare Nakamichi walkman

walkman.archive - 2013-03-31 16:03

I didn't think I could ever find such a treasure like this... but I finally did. A lucky found, indeed!

As far as I know, Nakamichi only made decks and one portable deck, but after some research I found they made only one walkman, the PW-100. Very simple design, yet elegant and with the only necessary features: Direct drive, Amorphous head, Dolby B&C... and that's all!

Actually it doesn't work well, but I'll try to get it serviced and I'll notice you.

Wow, that's the find of the year!! Now I can say I have the world's rarest and most exclusive walkman of them all!

nak.d - 2013-03-31 16:10

Yes, yes I know the one Hugo. Let me think, does this one have

Advanced Professional Reverse Indicating Line Out

For Oscillating Omnidirectional Levels?

walkgirl - 2013-03-31 16:59

Is that the only walkman?

or did they make more of them?

isolator42 - 2013-03-31 17:34

you sure the model number wasn't  AF01-04?

demiwang - 2013-03-31 18:01

Why is it the spitting image of SONY WM-DX100?

elektroneko - 2013-03-31 18:45

It seems to be a OEM version of some sort.

Still, awesome.

retrodos - 2013-03-31 19:11

Nice SONY WM-DX100!! You had me their, till I seen the picture and someone else spotted it, been working on Nakamichi components for a while and have almost every sales catalogs never known them to get into walkmans.

johnedward - 2013-03-31 21:23

SHOCK... now that is a totally new one on me.  Never knew Nak to make Walkman. what a find in a lifetime.  Your too lucky my friend.  I believe your Nakamichi Walkman is belt driven not a DD ( a advantage with age as belt easy enough to replace DD gear not so)  I agree with retrodos is appears identical to the Sony DX-100 prof. series.  A excellent sounding Walkman but with a weak amp.  Great build and not DD drive but belt driven.  Very solid machine. Believe Sony made it as a very high end player one step below the DD9 having high end internals EX Amorphous Head but not ultra high end head of the DD9 or exotic drive system.  Reduced cost a lot by making drive by belt.  Not too many around.  Really cool to see the NAKAMICHI LOGO on a WALKMAN !!!!!

Do you have a DX-100 to compare it too ?  Here is file photo silver one mine is black.

Sony WM-DX100 Silver

Here is my Black one although the side controls surface is a bit taddy.....

Hi all!

demiwang, john, elektroneko, walkgirl: i'm sure it's some sort of oem model, but if you look closely, you will notice there are differences:

- autoreverse was removed

- it has no megabass

but it shares the same design, of course... I believe it was given only to premium resellers or so, like the boodo khan BBS-10 seat...

samovar - 2013-04-01 01:03

must sound great on this track

If a real Nak WM ever turns up I'd do a bank job to get it.

;-) It is, but I guess that, like me, many dreamed it would not. It could be a reeeeally superb unit for any collection...

(not to mention at what price it could be sold)

Nak D was the first to get it, ha ha, with his 'Advanced Professional Reverse Indicating Line Out For Oscillating Omnidirectional Levels' -> APRIL OFOOL ;-D

It was a good attempt, huh?

johnedward - 2013-04-01 20:49

HUGO your SOOOO BADDD.... toying with us dreamers wishing for a Nakamichi WALKMAN... IF ONLY... nicely pulled off ...HA HAAHHH

retrodos - 2013-04-02 08:17

Shame Nakamichi never was into the walkman market. One could only wonder what they would have came up with if they did? I look at their car cassette decks and they made some pretty amazing stuff.

They were well known for OEM items...although, sad to say, it's extremely unlikely they made a WM, regardless of brand...

walkman.archive - 2013-04-08 04:55

Hehehe ;-D

Yeah, I know I'm badd

But guys, you don't realize how much did I enjoy

Don't worry yourself about this walkman. It is meant as a joke and is a fake model, created by Walkman Archive.
