Sony EX808HG....for 500 pennies

brutus442 - 2013-04-01 08:00

My best score of of Ebay ever. An almost mint 808.....working!  It just needs a belt (I fit a temp one in to test it) but it works flawlessly. Got it for $5.00

DocP will be getting a bulk order request for all of my walkmans soon. but for now I am enjoying this little marvel's appearance.

brutus442 - 2013-04-02 06:47

No joke laz!

I couldn't believe it either! I put a $5.00 bid in 2 days before the auction ended just to test the waters and "presto" I was the last bid???

I really thought I'd get outbid...especially at $5.00  This NEVER happens to me on Ebay. I always get sniped at the last moment for something I want....

oh, hell noo..

most hated walkman series ever .. had a sony WM-EX 1 HG in 1996 which came in a wooden box and payed 400 DM for it, my most expensive walkman ever... it jammed after some months... i sent it to sony.

it took 7 (!!!) weeks to come back. and what happened ? they cutted one cable from the switch, when they closed it again after repair.

it jammed again after 2 months.

"lightning never strikes it twice", so i bought the following unit WM-EX 2 HG... same s**tbox ....

after that, i was sick of sony and didn`t buy anything from them until 2003...

these days, i only buy used crap like old walkmen for a few bucks or new units, which aren`t available from another manufacturers, such as the first available e book reader PRS 505 for less than 300 € in 2009 or a mirrorless camera like the NEX5 and NEX5N in 2011 and 2012...

and even today, they produce crap like the clicking noise in a NEX5N, when you make HD movie clips.... but i never send something to these idiots again -.- ..

but if i can avoid it, i buy no new and expensive sony products....

that might be the reason, why you can get those models cheap sometimes ...

The new Sony NEX 5N doesn't have the clicking issue. Sony did a recall on the first batch they did a while ago fixing the issues. The only problem I hate about them is the overheating issue after a few minutes of shooting HD video due to the larger sensor and smaller body, plus not as wide selection of lens. Reason why I sold it and when with a Canon 7D instead. Shame as like the size and look of the Sony.

5 bucks for a Sony EX505HG is a very good deal, as paid way more for one a few years back, they are easy to fix.

aah filming.. my passion ^_^ ...

for DLSR filming i`ve got a nex5n and a t3i .... both have their advantages and disadvantages... i often take the nex when i need a small and stealthy camera.

but sony doesn`t offer the free recall anymore... if you come too late after guarantee expired, you`ve gotta PAY ... for a failure THEY produced ... thx sony -.- ...

overheating ? well, for FILM there are nice devices. they call it CAMCORDER ...

i never understood, why normal ppl. have to buy a still cam for filming . apsc is overheating really fast. they`ve got not the same sharp and brilliant picture like a good camcorder when filming with lens wide open (unless u buy an expensive prime lens), got no real video stabilizer, and they`re not made for handheld filming (ergonomically), so you`ve got to buy a lot equipment to make it as stable as a camcorder. and most of them have no good autofocus..

as a result of this, youtube and other portals are filled up with jerky, blurry and out of focus holiday shots ... yes they have the "film look", but at what price ?

independent and pro filmers have an entire bunch of DSLRs as backup. if it heats up, they just take another fresh one of the same model and let the warm ones cool down...

for longer clips i have a canon HF G10 camcorder, which performs great and has a very good stabilizer inside ^_^ ... i have 32GB internal memory, and two SD card slots, so i can film with 96 GB max. i can shoot for hours and hours, it doesn`t heat up and i don´t need to buy expensive stabilizing equipment like with DSLR...

finally, as a jacket cam, i have a JVC gz-hm30 which has only 720p recording, but a very nice 40x optical zoom lens .. it`s a great cheapo paparazzi cam, better use a tripod when zooming in xD ...

all in all, i can make nice clips with apsc cams + a trunk of stabilizing hardware as PART of my equipment. but if i`d use only one camera, i`d prefer a good camcorder as an all in one device.

Well Now is a good time to Learn  about these Shiney Cassette Walkmans as this is not the Only Model that has a mirror finish.

The Sony WM-EX1HG & the Sony WM-EX20 both have similar finish's

elektroneko - 2013-04-23 14:09

Oeh, nice.

I often don't like round shiny things, but this is quite beautiful.

brutus442 - 2013-04-24 06:02
