Like these players have all the early series.   Sadly they seem to have problems especially with the auto reverse best not to use the button IMO.   Love the radio cassette module players its a specialty of mine have about 30.  Great idea in its time.

yep .... well, my autoreverse is also faulty, but the rest of the player is in good condition. no jerky sound, no strange electronic noises .... so i think, its only a mechanical problem to fix the autoreverse ...

any luck with locating a service manual for the Akai PM-R2 ?

Mine needs the speed adjusting and I couldn't see an obvious way of doing this when I put a new belt on..

ok you didn't specify what you tried to do to adjust the speed, so - here is a video I made with a different brand of cassette player showing that you could maybe find a off motor speed adjustment if you follow the power leads coming from the motor either on the circuit board on directly from the motor, right?

p.s. I use to have a akai similar to this model of yours but I sold it to a member in here, and that is yet another story.

Another thought of finding your speed adjustment here in this 2 minute 37 seconds video, I hope this video below gives you a idea to pursue?

pp.s. I don't have my external drive with me so I don't know if I have the service manual for this akai as I am still moving and today is the day that I take down this six leg desk and this computer and then only have the laptop which had almost nothing on it - so if it's get lost then I don't lose anything but connection to the web.  G'day.
