Finally, a mint BTTF walkman!

walkman.archive - 2013-07-26 15:33

After a long wait, I could get my hands finally in a mint AIWA HS-P07, which is the very same model that Marty McFly used in the famous movie Back to the future.

Here it is:

I find it very beautiful

Here's a frame taken from the original movie:

Back to the Future I 04

there's only a slight difference: the exact one is the USA model, which is called 'HS-P02 MkII', while the rest of the world model was named 'HS-P07'.

So mine is not exactly the same but I'm very close now!! ;-)

Now you can dress up in a HAZMAT suit, call yourself Darth Vader and fry some brains Hugo!

Classic photography...as usual

minty - 2013-07-27 11:45

Our friend Hugo is not just a photographer, but a professor of photography! Top pics as always.

nak.d - 2013-07-27 12:40

Hugo, that's a great additional, such a nice clean looking unit. How is the sound on this thing?

mitchelljames - 2013-07-28 00:23

FILE - Ref songs Maxell XL-IIs Rec SD6C DolbyB Play HS-F07 Grey DolbyB.mp3

Thanks guys! I'm glad you aprecciate my photos :-)

Dogtemple: those videocams were impressive at the time...

Nak, this P07 really sounds pretty good. Actually this unit doesn't work, but I have a F07 (same model with recording feature) perfectly serviced by a professional technician, and now it works perfectly.

 AIWA HS-F07 03

I recorded my 12-min reference songs mix (see info here) in a brand new Maxell XL-IIs tape using my 'superD6C' and managed to record in a wav file the output from my F07. I attached the file so you can hear how does it sound.

I recorded it using Dolby B and played it with Dolby B too, as well as with the tape selector in CrO2/Metal position.

although I didn't compared it directly with many other models, IMHO it sounds much better than the majority of them. A bit plain, but very clean and with good soundstage.

The more I learn about walkmans, the more I realize that the older the model, the better it sounds... until 1982-83 or so (only top models, of course).

Curious that many years ago, when I was a teen and was also enjoying walkmans, I believed the idea that the more 'advanced' and the more the 'cool features' it has, the better it sounds.

I.e.: if a Walkmans has autoreverse, it probably is better and sounds far better than a simpler one; if it has megabass (or any bass enhancing feature), then it sounds way better than other model that doesn't feature it.

Nowadays I realized that many of the best sounding models doesn't feature 'megabass', EQ, PLL radio, LCD or any of the coolest features back then...

But it's also true that when I was a teen I didn't have the excellent headphones that now I have and the 'megabass', EQ and all that helped to hide the bad quality of the supplied headphones that all them normally came with.

I managed to record a quick video about my F07 and I'll try to upload it today for you guys. My first video! ;-)

It's not the way I'd like it to be in terms of quality, but I think it's pretty good still. Stay tuned :-)

PS: just three weeks ago I've had the opportunity to see a Delorean for the first time in my life. I think in Spain there is probably the only one Delorean in the whole country. It's owner is a nice guy I've had the opportunity to meet. He lives near me.

Here there are some photos of my biggest son in it.

I've also uploaded the review to Vimeo, which offers a higher image quality. Both are in HD, so don't forget to select quality 720p! ;-)

back to the past!

walkman.archive - 2013-08-04 04:37

Yeah, back to the past

BTW: surprisingly in the last days appeared some BTTF walkmans in eBay . It's a very rare model and you can be waiting for many months or even years until you see just one!

walkman.archive - 2013-09-05 13:47

Hmmm, looks that no one has seen my review or either noone wanted to comment anything on it.

Can you tell me what do you think about it? Did you liked it? is there anything that you didn't like? Is there anything that you'd like to see in future reviews?

There would be useful to me such comments and suggestions...

Hi, just watched it again, but this time commented! Great video. Maybe next time split the video into two: the main item (Aiwa BTTF WM) for the 1st...and the 2nd can be the montage of all the other aiwa walkmans...keep up the great work hugo

emma.in.candyland - 2013-09-05 14:43

That's awesome! I wish I could get my hands on the P02 MKII, I would buy it even if it was broken xD

walkman.archive - 2013-09-06 15:33

Thanks for the comments!

@Nak: you're right. In fact, I've thought about that myself, so I plan to do different videos in future releases.

martymcfly - 2013-09-06 15:58

Nice Video Hugo, and Congrats on the rare find.  I think everyone should do a Video so we can all hear each others voices.  And of course do just a little bragging!

Here's another one for anybody who's interested!

Door hinge has clearly gone too and seller chooses not to mention this, not sure I'd take the risk myself.

benjagaiden - 2014-10-04 10:10

Oh whoops! I assure you that's out of ignorance, not deception

It's mine, and you're right. I'll see if I can add that to the description.

I'm glad to answer any questions you have about it! Not looking to rip anybody off here.

Thanks for the reply!

benjagaiden - 2014-10-04 10:18

Thanks again agentorange. I've updated the listing. If anybody reading is interested and want's additional pictures, let me know. I might even be able to put together a quick video later today if somebody is really interested.

emma.in.candyland - 2014-10-04 10:36

Really nice!!! Well I found this Aiwa like a year ago now ! But mine went up to $250, I'm sure yours will sell nicely benjagaiden! What I am looking for now is one of these grey case and strap

benjagaiden - 2014-10-04 10:52

Hey thanks! Nice community you guys have here

ao - 2014-10-04 11:57

Also, you should list the auction in it's own thread in the Walkamn eBay section rather than hijack every relevant thread, it's usual forum etiquette :-)

stuka1939 - 2015-07-17 11:34

I was the winner of that auction. For some reason I could never get the door to open and the clear face plate basically was falling off. Did you glue the door shut?!

benjagaiden - 2015-07-18 07:12

Nope, didn't glue it on! But I do remember it kinda getting stuck on one corner. I was able to get it open by gently pulling out on both sides. I think there's a screw missing but, like I mentioned in the post, I'm not an expert.

I hope you don't feel the item was misrepresented in the post! I tried to describe it as best I could.

tim.chapman - 2015-07-18 09:38

For some reason (I'm pretty sure I have OCD) I collect just Sony brand Walkmans but this is one that would make me "collect outside the box" FOR SURE !

ruby.love - 2016-02-27 17:28

I need an AIWA HS-P02Mk  or similar Walkman.  Please.  thanks.
