I thought there were rules about posting auctions that weren't yours, can't remember if there are as it is so convoluted to keep track of. Anyway, yep it's a wreck though I did wonder what it would sell for.

radio.raheem - 2013-10-29 16:38

hows your aiwa nice box....that pc board i bought.....its all up and running...im using it now....not sure what to ask for my old one...has the chip memory fan etc,,,,just a damaged pci express lane and some of the usb ports are out,,,,,but it's the identical same set up that i showed you

seb968 - 2013-10-29 16:45

The Aiwa is fantastic; I realy love it!  Glad your PC is up and running. I'm thinking of upgrading my PC soon; I'm still running an 8 year old Pentium 4, and it is begging to show sighns of age!! I5 or I7 is the way want to go, want somthing that can deal easily with HD video. I think you got a great bargain with tat PC board of yours . I'm listening to the Aiwa now, it is definately a keeper!

radio.raheem - 2013-10-29 16:58

Thanks mate im quite suprised i managed to put her togeather lad as im nearly blind (realy) but i must have been building p'cs for 15 years...do you build your own???? it's the way to go it's way way cheaper and far more satisfuying and rewarding....the only reason i can see and type to you lot is because im using a 50"" sreen....

yea aiwas are nice...i miss my 880's more than sex,,,,but it will be nice to have an m90 back once she is done....to think i must of had a dozen of them...if i had kept em i could of had a nice deposit for a house now instead of my poxy flat that i riside in

seb968 - 2013-10-29 17:16

Yeah I always build my own PC's; as you say it's far more satisfying (and you know what goes into them) I guess we all spend too much time and money on hobbies (With me its cars, boomboxes, hifi, cats etc.) but hey, it's good fun!   I have never managed to get my hands on an M-90, sure as hell would like to try one out; they have a hell of a rep! Hope you get yours back soon! I'm still working on my M-70. It has many problems but I think I'm getting there! The refurb on the Aiwa was easy! It is a really well thought out machine inside. I'll definitely look for more of these. Quite curious about the larger Toshiba boxes too, but have to be careful not to get too carried away by all of this; I can now see how easy it is to get in deep with this hobby!   All the best, Seb

radio.raheem - 2013-10-29 17:48

Without question the m90 is the best one peice traditional box you can get...if you move on to more modern like the dp200 they leave it there,,,,but there is nothing more satisfuying than a big traditional box such as the m90.....the silly prices it fetches now is another question....as you said yourself you would be scared to use it...same as my boxed dp200 i supose..it's been in it's box since i bought it.....i thought they went for next to nothing but the germans are going mad over them....that's the only thing that realy spoils this hobby for me is when boxes that you have go for silly money,,,,,id much rather them be worth feck all and used as they were intended for

I whole heartedly agree with you; the silly prices these machines go for is a turn off, and the fact that machines are being left on the shelf or in their boxes is a crying shame. Boom boxes are not the only branch of retro electronics no be hit by the nostalgia price hike; check out the prices that certain models of Betamax video recorders go for. Nostalgia has become big business. I do wonder what all this stuff will really be worth when our generation has gone though!

the prices on certain boxes is crazy for sure as good as the m90 is, is it worth £1600 my answer has to be no .    as long as people are willing to pay top dollar for them nothing will change .

Well, let's be fair, the only reason the M90 is the king of eBay is because of collectors hyping it up.  The more collectors who want something then the price rises.  Van Gough paintings sell for millions not because they are good paintings but because they are collectable & why are they collectable?  because they are perceived so by collectors.  So, really, you are victims of your own destiny.  Reno, you mention your M90's in pretty much every post you make so for you to complain about the silly prices does seem kind of odd.

Granted the M90 is a great radio and in your opinion it's the best.  I'd personally argue that there are better radios out there but with far less eBay glitz, Sanyo M920, Panasonic RX-7700, RX-7200 etc.

Does the constant M90 debate wear me down?  Clearly it does but to hear you lot moan about prices then post links to auction listings which only boosts prices even higher does seem strange.

ao - 2013-10-30 03:20

Posting ebay links is fine Seb, i forget where we got with rules here but I suspect the concern refers to 'outing' auctions which others are watching but in my view all's fair in love and war and all that.

ao - 2013-10-30 03:21

Oh, I remember now, eBay listings to feature in the relevant section.

I'll move it now.

Trouble is that people love to talk about what they love! It's human nature; they have found something that they feel is great and wish to share it. It is partly what this forum is about too I feel. Unfortunately, this is what creates the catch 22, certain radios are talked up, and the prices go up. However in the case of certain boom boxes I think the prices would be high anyway. Everyone from our age group and hobby background remembers the top of the range gear, and many of us aspired to owning it. Maybe we couldn’t afford it then but now we can. 30 years on the supply of these machines is limited so therein lies the problem!

Ahh, thanks for clarifying that.

Hi Seb

Unless you're doing serious multitasking an i5 is plenty power.  I have an 3570 i5 and it's a beast.  To be honest it's way more power than I need. Whatever you get just make sure you get a decent amount of memory, 8 gigs minimum for 64 bit.

seb968 - 2013-10-30 17:37

Thanks schneil. You are probably right; I7 is over the top. I think even an I3 will be a quantum leap over what I have! I'm not going to rush into this. I like computers to last me a while so I'll be doing some homework!! I'm a bit out of touch, it is so long since I've built a one!
