Where do Ebay get those insane import duty prices from? If an item is used we only have to pay the VAT (at 20%) of the value in pounds sterling of the item plus a clearance fee.

I bought my M90 from the States for just over 1000 dollars and the total customs and clearance fees only came to about £135. I know the shipping cost often kills these deals but that too was about £100 which was not so bad. Try getting anything from Canada!

These pre-paid customs quotes are nothing more than a scam.

I think the usual culprit Nick....the lousy goverment.or ebay....i used to import stuff like m90's...quite oftern paying nothing on import or very little...gone are the days of me importing anything though

Acording to ebay I even have to pay import charges for $25 items. Like a set of jvc antennas. Item of these low amounts are normally considered duty free over here. Since they applied this scheme I stopped buying from the usa via ebay.

I have no doubt that if a seller wishes to opt out of the scheme and just send it the normal way with you paying whatever is actually charged at the point of entry they can do. I will ask next time and see what happens. It's probably illegal in the States and over here for Ebay to insist on using their scheme but they might restrict the level of guarantees and protection they provide if you work around it.

In the UK the amount that is duty free is £40. You often still have to pay the clearance fee which is a minimum of £8 but normally you don't if there is no VAT to pay. I have gotten away with paying no fees at all for about a third of my imports that should have attracted VAT. Nearly all items that have been sent by USPS have been charged for and none of the ones that have come by UPS have cost anything at all! Worth looking out for that option........

Try getting anthing INTO Canada!

I live near the US border (I'm 1.5 hours away..not bad) and I have "escorted" many goods across the border without the duty. It is RIDICULOUS the price they want.

A pox on their houses

I bought this having it shipped to my friend in the US to avoid the import scam postage tax thing, then she is posting it on to me It all works perfectly so figured it was worth it, as I might get one for less that is rougher looking or needing to be repaired... I know it was a lot of money but I don't mind as I buy all my stuff to keep anyway .

Ouch!...you must have really deep pockets but congrats on getting the mother of all boxes. If you can afford it then why not :-)

Bet you can't wait to get your mitts on it lol

seb968 - 2013-11-15 03:18

Well it is one of, if not the most desirable of all boomboxes, hope it all works out okay.

soundboy - 2013-11-16 08:28
