Sony 10th Anniversary Walkman Book

sotza - 2014-10-10 12:32

Has anyone ever seen that ? What's in it ? It seems to be Japan edition, from 1989.

Some kind of celebration-catalog for the 10 years of Sony walkman production.

SONY 1989

If anyone has it would be great to scan it and share it with all of us.

walkman.archive - 2014-10-14 05:11

I never seen this, but it would be nice to get more info about it...

I believe that this never was outside of Japan ,in fact I wouldn't be surprised if it is read from the "end" to the "beginning", so unless someone from Japan sees this topic and do some research there is not much hope.

There was also a 30th Anniversary Walkman Book ,that has listings with photos ,year by year, for all kind of walkmans from cassette to hard disk and mp3, it has also some articles with technological achievements over the years.

walkman chronicle 1st page

That is also wanted.

brutus442 - 2014-10-14 08:29

That would make a fantastic coffee table book. I wonder how many were printed?

I really don't know but both are official Sony publications.

I have seen ,bad quality, photos  of pages from the 30th Anniversary book and seems to be very useful ,if you want to know  at a glance, for example when wm75 was made 1985 or 1986 ? ..... (it was 1985)

The downside is that there are comments for each device but in Japanese.

What makes these books highly desirable is the professional quality photographs throughout.

brutus442 - 2014-10-14 09:16

What a fantastic addition this would be to any collector! Great find!

sotza - 2014-10-23 10:28

This may be useful in searching the 30th Anniversary Walkman Book.

Hi Mike and welcome !

You are very lucky to own that book ,you're right it is sad that it is in Japanese so some interesting info can't be accessed from most of us.

Aside that it is very useful as a quick guide and has great photos.

It is obvious that if you are selling it I'm interested, if so PM me.

If you're not selling,it would be great if you could scan it,as mentioned above, that would make many members here very happy!

Hello,

Thank you for Welkome note.

The best I can do is to make photos and combine it in pdf. It is impossible to scan because of type of the binder of the book. But I will do my Best and will upload pdf for all Walkman fans.

I understand you completely, that is a problem, if you open very widely the book the binding will break.

Photos are great, pdf even better ,I can't thank you enough and I think I speak for everyone else interested!

brutus442 - 2014-10-24 11:13

Mike, Welcome my friend!

Your efforts would be greatly appreciated, but do take care of your book. We'd love the scans but not at the expense of ruining your book.

I'll thank you in advance for any scans we do get

Hello Mike!

I think soon Santa will call you to be his helper

santa

It was difficult to stop looking the book so I can write this to thank you ,it is the best thing we can have next to the real book, you can zoom in enough so no detail can be missed .

Thanks very much for the trouble you get yourself into to find an appropriate scanner so we could have the best scans of this book ,really greatly appreciated.

Color variations ,first year of manufacture ,model type now can be easily accessed and not only for cassette walkmans!

Thanks again for all of your efforts!

PS. I vote for the page by page PDF it seems to be easier to scroll down pages and have the entire page cover the entire screen.

Regards

Hello Mike thanks again for another wonderful catalog!

S2g member renzgi and maybe others has all the six colors we see on the cover of the iconic DD:

http://REPLACEMENT ERROR/topic...m-dd-in-all-6-colors

I have silver and black and the Sony Metallic tape on the cover.

There is no need to understand Japanese to see written history on second page super low 0.08% wow&flutter and a design of the Disc Drive principle!

mike.moscow - 2014-11-13 04:52

Hello sotza,

I am Happy that you Happy

I am ready to share more info from my catalogs collection.

Actually I try to find on Forum separate section where all members upload Catalogs or manuals, etc...., but did not find it. Probably, if stereo2go have such section, is better to upload it there for better access by Forum members? It can be such a Knowledge base.

What is your recommendation as Advanced member.

Actually thats a good idea Mike, there is a service manual topic in s2g but  I don't recall a topic specifically for walkman catalogs if I don't miss something you could start a new topic named walkman catalogs ,walkman brochures or anything you think appropriate.

brutus442 - 2014-11-13 10:22

Mike.

A huge thanks for this. I know it's a difficult task but your efforts are really appreciated!

nevone - 2014-11-13 12:00

This is a great topic. Could we perhaps make it sticky or otherwise make it easier to find? It would be a shame to loose it amongst the other topics

tim.chapman - 2014-11-14 08:59

*THANK YOU* I don't have the $200 people are asking for this book, we owe you a big hug for doing all this work.

*Huuuuuuuuuuug* !!!

walkman.archive - 2014-11-21 02:22

Thank you Mike for sharing such amount of catalogs, and very well scanned & photographied.

I particulary like how well you did the de-screening, which is a difficult task. You used a Samsung CLX, right?

Hello,

I just scan it on MFU Samsung CLX-6220FX (Network Color Laser Printer and Scanner) and it make descreening automatically and save everithing in .pdf, .tiff or .jpg at your choice. One of the best device I ever seen. We use it in our office.

But Walkman Chronicles it was not simple task. Finally I ask my Friend who work in State Library to scan it on Planar Scanner. They use it to digitize books. This scanner cost over 100'000 Euros and only few you can find in such city like Moscow.

Specially for you I will upload another Walkman Catalog that contain info about Boodo Khan BBS-10. I know you have it in collection. Information on Japanese and only on 2 pages, but I hope you still will be happy

Best Regards

Fantastic!!!

Great scans! Does anyone have any of the Bodo Khan accessories on page 10? I have no idea what it is but it looks like a padded back rest that connects to the walkman via???

Anyone?

Thanks a lot for your latest upload Mike, I appreciatte it. Yes, I have the ultra-rare BBS-10 in my collection, and I knew it exists thanks to our missed John Edward.

It's an awesome accessory, and it really can blow you out to a level that you probably can't imagine until you feel it.

I'm very lucky to have it as there were only 250 to the whole world, so that's probably one of the most rare music accesories ever made.

I plan to post something on this subject soon...

sotza - 2014-11-21 13:52

Thanks Mike for the continuing journey...
