Panasonic rx egg
I have a RX-ED707 as well and I also have a RX-C300-2. The C300-2 is a four piece unit and there is no comparison with regards to the output between the two. The C300 will totally smash the ED-707 volume wise. BUT, the sound quality from the ED-707 is a tad better (one reason is the subwoofer) IMHO and seemingly easier on the ears. The C300 is no slacker on clarity and my goodness it's loud, but lacks the very low end the ED-707 manages. I would say as far as one-piece boomers, the "eggs" have it for Panasonic. They are a bit newer technology for one. I believe in another thread regarding the "eggs" the RX-DT909 seems to be the king of them. I've never heard or even seen one but that's the model they gave. No problem and God bless them, indeed. ![]()
IMO, speaking about products of 90s
best Matsushita one-piecers are three generations of Cobras, but only top ones, only RX-DT series:
7/9, 77/99, 707/909, 75/95, 701/901.
The rest (ED series, etc.) are inferior to DT sound wise.
Having only RX-DT909 if I were after another Cobra I'd choose between 95 and 901.
The rest (ED series, etc.) are inferior to DT sound wise.
I have read that as well. They say the ED series doesn't quite have the punch of the DT's. I know there are less drivers in the ED's. I wasn't planning on acquiring another "egg"/Cobra but after reading about how great the DT-909 sounds I may try to snag one if I come across it. Overall, the ED-707 does sound very good so I can only imagine how the 909 will sound if I should be so lucky. ![]()
Aha, not only punch but overall sound quality as well.
I heard an ED Egg a few years ago and thought it sounded better than pretty much any 80's square box but just not enticing enough to live with the look of it. Then I succumbed to the lure of the DT-75 with it's awesome motorised tape drawers and other fancy bits and was stunned with how good it sounded. Next up was a DT-707 which lacked a few of the trick features of the 75 but looked 'cleaner' and the amount of high quality sound that this thing produced was a level higher still. I recently got a DT-95 which adds a few more features to the 75 and looks lovely. The sound falls somewhere between the other two. Of what i have heard and seen so far, it is the DT-707 that really kicks ass and i can only imagine that a DT-909 would be better still but the design and clever features of the 75 and 95 are worth the minor hit in ultimate sound levels. The looks are not for the purist but really; neither are most three piece machines, and for many the Kabooms would be out of the question! It's all about the compromises you are prepared to make in order to enjoy sound and convenience at a whole level higher than any conventional boombox. Horses for courses; for sure, but make no mistake about what is 'best' if you are buying for your ears.
If anyone has a beaten up DT-75 out there where the only thing worth saving is the 240V transformer; i would be very interested to hear from you. Thanks

Great response and anything i write will only repeat this. I have the ED707 and the DT77 and i love the DT77. Not classic looking but trick and great sounding. Oh wait i wasn't going to write anything, so yeah, pretty much what Nick has said.
Whenever i post anything about the cobra tops i feel like i better run and hide before AO comes along and notices ![]()
