The Tridents

Inspired by T-Sters recent acquirement of the ''Le Baron''
http://REPLACEMENT ERROR/topic...5#535126034059536985
and after finding a carcass of a Conion CRC-H76 (Its missing the speakers and its cassette door) , i decided to make a post about the 2 Trident beauties i recently acquired too.
The models are Trident CX-444F and Trident CX-449F .
About almost 3 and a half years ago i stumbled upon the 444 but didnt know what i was thinking that particular day and didnt get it.
http://REPLACEMENT ERROR/topic...hould-be-higher-8989
Needless to say that from the very first hour i regretted for not getting it and i was on the lookout to get one. An opportunity arised and got a ''parts''one with the help of member Nevone from Romania. It was a risky decision because the colour looked different but i wanted to get it anyway. Turned out to be a Repaint job from its previous owner which in time i will correct by painting it Blue or Red (any thoughts on this one?)
So i was back on the hunt for one and this came to an end this morning by purchasing one from a good friend.
For the Trident CX-444F , well i was always amazed by the looks of it from a Jamal Shabazz picture of 2 Guys holding one with taped battery cover probably because its missing and they invented a way to hold the batteries from NYC Subway back from the 1980s featured at L.O book in 2 pages.
Its the same machine as the CX-444 only slightly different .
From both i love the speaker grills which are so unusual and i think i mentioned it before (but i cant remember the topic) but the Grills of the 444 remind me of this :
Now most of you might wonder whats the connection with the Conion CRC-H76 plus the Conion CRC-H58 .
Well , i ve seen all of them models and i believe that the Tridents are in a strange way akas of the Conions because of their design layout . One , by looking at the top and how the knobs and switches are arranged can come to this conclusion.
Here is a pic of the CRC-H76 ''Le Baron'' (nickname coined to Member Hisrudeness) i got :
The one i got as a carcass, well at some point it will be fixed i guess.
Most Importantly I am now on the lookout for the Trident CX-444 N Version which looks like this for the Reason that Tridents cant be doubles !! They must always be Triplets ! It looks like this and if anyone has one for sale or trade can contact me straight away :

What a great thread! Pictures, storytelling and history of the boombox in one. Surely we get a 3x1 cause the topic is Tridents, which as you yourself point out always come in triplets?
I am happy that you too are attentive to questions related to my "What's in an AKA" thread, when you mentioned the similarity of look between Tridents and Conions (http://REPLACEMENT ERROR/topic/what-s-in-an-aka)
AKA have been defined as "same service manual units", with focus on mechanics and electronics. But how do we call "same look" or "parallel design" boxes? That remains a mystery, especially because even textbook similarities in design are not perceived as such by experts (http://REPLACEMENT ERROR/topic...designed-those-boxes | see also this old thread by Redbenjoe, which I discovered after posting mine: http://REPLACEMENT ERROR/topic/design-copyrights-)
I guess boomboxfella like you and me think alike: I cannot stop thinking that the lovely speakers of the CX-444 F, which remind you of the Wolkswagen Beetle, are a variation on a German theme I loved as a kid:
I wish you find the CX-444 N, the most Conion-like of the 3-dents In the unlikely event that I find one before you do, I guess we'll have a trade on the cards!

Hello mate,
I have both the 447N and the 457N,
The 447 is a working box that's missing the tape door, plus someone has changed the tuner inside. Needs belts.
The 457 is a more or less complete parts box, the main board is fried though.
What do you need?

Beautiful write up Deech! They certainly do have that Conion look alright!
Although I'm not a huge fan of the plastic, turbine speaker cover I have to admit they work on these models. The CX-444 N is quite the opposite for me. It's just drop dead gorgeous!
Hardman I hope you can help Deech's quest! Good luck gents!
