It is perplexing that they never get on the world's largest boombox and Walkman Forum to talk about the new equipment. mellymelsr has been a member since the old, old days.
As someone who has pledged for one of these on Kickstarter, I too wondered about the lack of direct engagement from Bumpboxx on s2g & boomboxery. Still, no matter, everyone knows about it & everyone who wants one has had plenty of opportunity to secure one at a discounted price. IMHO, Bumpboxx is exactly the sort of audio manufacturer to do this. They have a history of making impressive-sounding machines, which is what a boombox should be. Hi-fi enthusiasts should probably look elsewhere, you are not their target market
They should know the market but this is the kind of product that will bust you fast, 1/4 million USD just for the face plate mold is big money. At least now they have CAD/CAM and can crank out designs a little faster with better error correction. I watch a lot of 3D printing videos on YouTube, the manufacturers are giving away free units to "influencers" like candy, every other video is taking about the free machine they just got. I'd definately be promoting new audio on these forums.
With all that vinyl is the background of the video they should try a VZ2000. Something I have sometimes wondered is "If CDs hadn't taken over from vinyl where would record decks have advanced to by now ? The Technics SL10 got the X and Y dimensions down to the minimum, but could you make one less than an inch thick.
It's really cool that this is really going to get off the ground. I have an original 777 and that's not a favorite, but this BB version is so kick! I like it, hope to score one someday
I was just about to come here and post this. It's still backable if interested: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/bumpboxx/bb-777-the-iconic-boombox-perfectly-recreated
I have no idea what the different versions are? I used to deliver stuff to our local GM Factory and they had blocks of old stamping dies, probably going back to the 50's, stored in huge racking outside. I always thought they might pull some out and remake some older cars but it never happened. BMC on the other hand started stamping out Triumphs and MG's in the late 80's, at one time I think you could get almost every part of the cars with the exception of stuff like door handles and window cranks.
