Been keeping an eye out for a cassette deck for the car for a while. Ebay seems a bit of a chance unless a N.O.S. set pops up - and they can be expensive! However, I found this new in box Clarion locally on Gumtree. An absolute bargain from an older chap who used to fit quality car audio as a sideline. Lovely fellow and a high spec tape deck - it will apparently run up to four CD changers! I’ll be running it through a modern equaliser giving me aux in via both RCA and 3.5mm, so I’ll be able to attach a Bluetooth receiver and my iPod too…
Rock on! I need to find a Clarion Documentary on YouTube, they made so many different models. I picked up a stack, maybe late 80's, from some Japanese Car with a tape deck, amp, tuner last year just on roached out looks alone, someday I'd like to fix it up. Does that have a built in CD player? That would be interesting, I don't think I've seen that before side x side with cassette.
I can find practically nothing online about this one - plenty on Clarion stereos in Honda CRXs though! No CD player in this one, but under the Addzest brand I’m pretty sure they did the cassette/CD combo. Probably JDM at a guess. I only wired it up yesterday, still haven’t figured out how it controls four (count them ) CD changers, but the FM enhancement works really well - picking up stations the previous Sony would never have seen. It’s a beautifully simple and intuitive UI - matches the Saab 900 ethos perfectly!
