Hello all, I would like to know what headphones were included with the Sony WM-DDII. I have looked everywhere and I haven't been able to find a single picture of the DDII with headphones. It's difficult to believe it didn't come with a pair. Thanks

Ah... those MDR-15! So there are two versions of the MDR-15. I found this ones and thought they didn't match the style of the DDII that well.

That's odd because those are much later than the OEM ones that shipped in 1984. I found a set on eBay as well and they are made in the Philippines not Japan. They look more like 1990's in design. It's a matter of preference of course but I don't use any of my original headsets. They are there to complete a set. I use a set of Sony WH-1000XM4 ANC phones with an Mii Bluetooth transmitter and none of these early headphones compare to the audio quality of these ANC Bluetooth sets. You can still get these XM4's fir under $300 from Sony too. Don't bother paying $500 for later releases. No discernible difference.

That's what I thought too, this MDR-15 look very 90s. I wasn't patient enough and bought a pair on eBay before you posted your boxed DDII. I already had a pair of 80s Japanese made MDR-15.
Regarding using BT headphones with a Walkman, is of course a matter of taste but I think that takes the fun out of using an analog source. There are plenty of Walkman style headphones that sound very decent. I recently bought a pair of MDR-62 that sound really good and I like the MDR-40 that came with the WM-DC2 too. One of my most used headphones in my ever growing collection of earbuds, on-ears and over-ears, are the Koss KSC75 with the headband mod. I must confess that I have a soft spot for Walkman style headphones.

I remember someone I knew getting a DC2 in the 80s, which came with much more expensive-looking headphones than those MDR-15's.
I would expect the WM-DDII to have come with something similar.
Here's a pic showing the DC2's original 'phones:

I think it would've been too early for the earbud types or those banded types that go in sideways...

The DC2 was basically a Walkman Professional without a record function so it would come with better headphones akin to MDR-51's as supplied with the D6C in the expanded kit.

    Those must be the MDR-40L?

I think they are. Mine look the same. The "L" I assume refers to the L shaped 3.5mm plug. Printed it just reads MDR-40 with out the "L".

DC2 was supplied in earlier boxed sets with MDR-40 headphones. Later SN's shipped with MDR-51 headphones. Entirely different for the DDII of course. Mine have MDR-15 printed inside on the left arm. They are nothing like the later version shown in the image above.

Interesting! I did not know, and don't have any brochure or manual to support that.
In this brochure, the DC2 is pictured with the MDR-E262, although it does not say those were packaged together.
This German invoice indicates a DC2 was bought with the MDR-60, but it looks like the 2 were simply bought at the same time.

    Hi Emiel,
DC2 came without headphones as well as third variant but other long term collectors confirm that MDR-40 was part of early shipments and later replaced with MDR-51 as supplied with D6C's around the same era.
    Cheers
