Not being around during the prime years of cassettes due to being... well, younger, I obviously don't have any previous experience with cassettes. But, with the advent of the internets insistence on limited ownership, I've been venturing into the world of physical media slowly but surely to better support musicians (as a musician myself), as well as to understand the joys of physical media. I hope y'all find the heart to go easy on me, as I will most certainly ask some stupid questions haha, and many thanks to all the helpful threads already posted on this site!
Welcome. On a different forum someone has "Spotify is killing music: and it's legal" as their signature. A twist on "Home taping is killing music: and it's illegal" campaign by record companies in the 1980s. A few years ago, in a long radio interview Kylie Minogue was asked on her views on that before she released records. "No. I was the one with my fingers on play and record on my mono radio cassette during the chart rundown" was her reply. Given by the amount of blank cassettes Woolworth's advertised I think that was a worldwide thing especially amongst teenagers.
Welcome to the forum! There was something about heading down to a store and picking up the latest release on cassette. I was a delivery driver for years and was either using a tape deck or listening to the radio (back when it was good). I treasured those tapes and still have most of them. Once digital came around, I jumped in but that media never really made me protective of it. There's something about seeing wheels spin, funky 80's lights jumping and the cold hard click of an amp that makes music special.
