Is there any way to preserve the original DC2 case? I have 3 of them, one in great condition which I would like to preserve as best as possible. Any treatment or storage ideas?

For daily use I bought a re-creation case from Ebay which I'm happy with. It's not prefect as the transparent window is little off, but seems robust and doing it's job. IMG_4410.jpeg IMG_4411.jpeg

I have some success using a high quality food grade silicon aerosol to treat my WM-D6C and WM-D6 leather cases. Spray minimal amounts on the case exterior and work into the leather with a soft cloth. The more difficult task will be that plastic window on the DC2 case. Have not found and answer to that yellowing and brittle end these all seem to suffer from. Maybe remove and replace with the plastic used in your replica case. If you could find out from the seller of those cases where to source the plastic without having to purchase another complete case it may provide the answer. I also have a number of these replica cases. Apart from a problem getting leather and not faux or microfibre leather as the seller calls it I found them to be quite good with that soft inside felt finish which protects the Walkman better than the original case does.

This is caused by the additives in plastic when produced. They add bromite as a flame retardent which when in contact with oxygen will turn brown/yellow, if the plastic is sealed well it will ot occur over time....check the RetrObright site....it can be reversed by retrobrighting it but this only cures the yellowing...that plastic becomes brittle is because of decay/time....

Google has some good hits on "how to store leather case"

Bt never ever put inside a plastic bag, it's leather it needs to breath otherwise fungi will grow....

there's no way you can preserve those old cases, they allways fall apart. don't waste any money on that, buy a remake

I guess the original DC2 case is not leather. The surface disconnects from the backing so yes, I assume there is no fix for this. Actually tried some gentle heating to no avail. Really starting to like the replica more and more.
