Glen Goldsmith - What you see is what you get

This takes me back to my late teens and living in Newquay Cornwall England. Ah to be young and innocent again.

Beach Boys – Pet Sounds (Mono Reissue) Analogue Productions 2026

    Beach Boys - Pet Sounds.jpg

As someone who didn’t previously own Pet Sounds and the fact that I like Beach Boys, I placed a pre-order the moment I heard about this reissue.

While many reviewers are raving that this is the definitive, best-ever copy, I cannot compare it to an original mono pressing since I don't own one. However, judged on its own merits, it is a highly impressive release.

I played this mono cut using a stereo cartridge with my pre-amp switched to mono, though I am curious how much a dedicated mono cartridge would further improve the sound.
Overall, the audio quality is excellent. Despite being a mono recording, it offers a remarkable sense of space, depth, and layering. I even noticed an impressive sense of height in the soundstage.

Here are my standout track observations:

    • "I’m Waiting for the Day": The presentation is incredibly analytical. It is almost too detailed, to the point where you can clearly hear the vocalists breathing between words.
    • Side II: Every track on this side sounds massive, defying the limitations of a mono mix.
    • "God Only Knows": This track sounds absolutely huge and amazing, bursting with intricate, fascinating instrumental textures.
    • "I Know There’s an Answer": The separation on the vocals and instruments is so distinct that it almost tricks the ears into thinking it is a stereo mix.
    • "Pet Sounds": The title track delivers a beautiful, immersive wall of sound.
    • "Caroline, No": The closing track features a brilliant outro. The sound effects of the barking dogs and the oncoming train create a stunning physical presence; the train feels like it is heading straight for you before steaming past at the very last second.
While this version is excellent, I remain a stereo enthusiast at heart. I would love to see this same level of care applied to a high-quality stereo reissue in the future.

Would I say it’s a must have, if you are a Beach Boys fan and don’t have a copy already then maybe.

If you do want a copy and don’t already have it, I think you are out of luck as I believe it’s already sold out, they only pressed 6000 copies :noway: . Well 6000 copies, don’t think that is actually true as I have seen at least 3 different reviewer with copies numbered 0000 / 6000

Pirates of the Caribbean - The curse of the black pearl

This sound track sounds amazing, well worth buying. I have been after this soundtrack for a while but could never find it on vinyl.
This vinyl copy is black translucent, very cool.

I have to admit I stopped watching the films after the first one, I just thought the films were pure cheese. But must say this soundtrack is amazing, Hans Zimmer’s sound tracks are always good.

    Anne Bisson - Guilty Pleasures

Bernie Grundmann - One Step cut No 807 of 1000 copies

I was at the Vienna High-End show last weekend and ran into Anne Bisson, who was selling and signing her latest album. While everyone else was queuing up to get their copies signed, I decided to skip the ink. Personally, I prefer keeping my records unsigned so the original cover art stays pristine. Instead, I asked Anne if we could take a photo together while holding the album. She happily agreed! Now, I keep the printed photo tucked safely inside the sleeve. For me, it’s the perfect compromise the cover stays exactly as intended, but I still have a great personal memory.

You guys are digging out some classics. I think I have dozens of Monkees and Beach Boys, if my collection was the standard, those bands outsold everyone by 10x, along with Herb Albert's Whipped Cream Delights. Now I have to check if they are the more valuable mono versions.
