1975, I don't know what the first front-loading deck was but here's Pioneer Advertising an early one

Awesome ad from Nakamichi 1979, I think someone could redo this display in fact I might 3d print a sign of it!

 

1979 Yamaha Wedge, these look great with the full rack of wedges but a little goofy on their own.

 

1976, music selection buttons! Pretty high-tech for 76, not sure why these didn't take off.

TEAC 1983, beautiful equipment, I've never gotten close to any of these.

 

High Fidelity, the Z-6000 from 1983. Anybody know why the z-7000 (from above is not the better deck?) At $1400 USD I'd say this is a higher end deck.

 

I think you had mentioned before that you had that deck, it makes sense the manual control is preferred, I didn't see that mentioned in the review and I was trying to match the specs from the ad. The review says you dial it in with a screwdriver, are those round holes (with a screw) next to bias, level and eq?

It makes sense that the TEAC Test Tapes seem to be the most popular, if you have a deck like this you probably like to dial it in yourself while the Nakamichis seem to be best adjusted by a professional.
