Hi. Just bought a very nice Amstrad 8090 and there is a slight issue with the removable cassette player. It works ok with batteries when it's disconnected from the main unit, as soon as I connect it back onto the main unit it stops. Does the bottom cassette have any influence on the top? Thanks Phil

Looks like R pin supplies power to the removable Walkman, L pin takes care of the signal. Check that R pin has some voltage to it, also check if removable player works of the external power supply.

The portable stereo works a treat on batteries, as soon as I put it into place on the main unit, the voltage on the pin drops from 6v to around 1.5v. Any ideas??

If you know what the pins do you could
    • Try putting an Ammeter in the supply feed to the postable stereo to see if the current drawn is excessive.
    • try running the portable stereo through the external connector
    • putting a load (e.g a torch bulb) on the output from the main unit
A most boomboxes run off much higher supply voltages than 6V it is possible that there is a 6V regulator inside the box.
    This might have gone faulty.

All sorted, I now have 2 working cassettes. Problem now, are the motors, they're struggling . Can't seem to find either one, are there equivalents? This is for the main cassette and the removable personal cassette. Thanks.

So what was the secret ?

Are you sure it is the motors and not worn out, slipping belts.
