Happy Birthday! He doesn't check in much these days but he was a cornerstone in the original forum foundation. As the moderator for the Walkman Sections he knew everything about everything before the internet had much information on portables. Those were good times but I'm sure he's happy to see the forum is still kicking around after close to 20 years. These were the guys that made collecting obsolete junk fun, I used to get so much crap from my friends for even owning a tape deck in 2004, let alone a Walkman but I knew there were many more out there and they weren't crazy.
I wonder what they are doing now? Maybe collecting "Antique" video games. We even have a shop specialising in those in town. An interesting thought occurred to me when I got the Prinz/Weltron 2001. At almost 50 years old it is actually older than any of the vintage radios people were collecting when the 2001 was the latest thing in the shops.
i‘m in closer contact to AO, he’s fine and just moved from Romania back to the UK. i‘m sure he‘ll show up here one day again…
I saw his birthday goose show up on the sidebar last night. I think a lot of guys retired from collecting or only had a handful of units and got bored talking about them. We have a few retro bars around town, not sure if they made it through the lockdowns but there was a few pinball bars and some lounges with retro video consoles.
This is an actual shop. I just discovered they have a website https://www.gamerzuk.com/about Looking around the whole shopping centre the only place where you could buy a cassette deck was a second-hand furniture and electricals store who had about three egg boomboxes, yet there are two different shops with a variety of Vintage Games Consoles.
Old video games consoles are getting hot here, Nintendos were always hard to find but some of those Super Mario Games are timeless and people held on to them. Here's a similar shop by me, Mr Zero's, he has a ton of cool stuff. https://www.mrzeros.com/
