Unbelievabe what this guy was able to do: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Aiwa-Walkm...000-JX505-JX303-and-PX-JX-series/282757288394 I just got feedback from guy who bought it that it works perfectly
There was an electronics store in Singapore that had lots of new old stock Aiwa Lead Acid batteries a few years back. I think I know where they went... I'm thinking of giving one of his batteries a try.
It seems incredibly well done indeed. But he says it outputs 2-2.5V. And Aiwa's lead-acid batteries did output 2V max: can we be sure that the player can handle this over-voltage harmlessly? I fear not, and I don't want to risk my precious' lives! Now the AA adapters do indeed feed the player with 3V when the alcalines are brand-new. And if the player is compatible with PB-1 and PB-2 batteries, the feeding is done with the same contacts, so I guess that either the player handles 3V harmlessly, or there is a sort of a DC-DC converter that ensures that the voltage stays 2V whatever the feeding is. But with not-so-early models compatible with PB-4 (or PB-S5) batteries, the contacts for the PB battery are totally different and far away on the mainboard from the ones for the AA adapter. And being a noob in electronics, I can't be sure that the same over-voltage protections are available at this place? Another good idea was proposed here, with an over-voltage also... I'd like to know how rupi99's players work after 6 years: if they're OK, I think I'm convinced! ;-)
BTW beware that the advert is partially lying: this PB-S5 won't fit in 50(5) and 30(3) models! PX-1000 yes, and he could have said 70(7) models also.
yeah I ended up contacting the guy on ebay and he made me a modded PB-5A which has a 2.3V output and is USB chargable works great.
Do you mean the guy from the link above? Do you have a picture of this modded battery and how much does it cost?
Here is the link to modded PB-5A battery I am using. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Aiwa-Re...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
