Sanyo Boomboxes 1982, they really didn't like to put in the model number in a lot of these Australia Ads

Sanyo's from 1973, this ad is neat because it shows the upcharge for adding a radio, the two boomboxes are very similar but the top one doesn't have a radio and is $54 AUD less expensive. Big money back in 1973!

National RQ-542S form 1976, price is AUD. As a kid I remember everyone had the top style recorders but I don't remember seeing my first portable cassette recorder until around 1978.

As I have said before if you were lucky, like a student teacher working with my Mother, you might get a Sanyo Radio Cassette for your 21st Birthday present.
My Mother was so impressed that she bought one herself that year. A massive step forward from the schools audio equipment that all dated from the 1950s.

If you didn't live through it, it's hard to imagine what a big purchase these items were. The component stereo guys had it even worse, some of the nice ones were over $1000 USD.

    Here's a neat Sanyo for 1979

Just look at Apple prices today and you can get close to imagining it. Of course, as I indicated in another thread property was far cheaper.
In the early 1970s one of my Mums friends bought what is now a £400000+ house as first time buyers on just her husbands salary.

1990 Boombox Ad, AU Dollars. It's interesting that the TEAC was pretty expensive, my experience with the portbles and boomboxes is that most of them are private-labeled junk, maybe they had some good stuff?

AKAI CT-1 from 1975, where's the photo? It's a nice looking mono unit but a strange ad.

Part of a larger brochure from 1989, AU Dollars! The top Sanyo looks interesting with the side-firing speakers, it's pretty expensive but is it worth it?
