20180108_172511.jpg I have finally found my most favorite walkman from Sony.
It works...... sort of. It plays tapes but, somewhat wobbly, I assume it needs a new belt, something I am concern about so, once I get the part, I'll be needing tips on how best to proceed.

your most favorite walkman looks beautiful. I see another one in silver behind it but i love the red one. The good news is changing belt on this walkman is not difficult

Thank you, it really is, it doesn't have a single scratch on it, came with the pouch also in amazing condition.
Just missing the headphones but, I am okay with that.

The silver one in the background is for display or parts only.

I find the 101, 102 and 103 series to be great looking players! Like Boodokhan said the belt is easy to replace but also check the pinch rollers. You might find that the reverse side will play better (sound wise). If so then the pinch roller for side A will need replacing.

Once I place the belt, I will check on it, thanks for the heads up.

The belt is on its way to me now, as soon as I get it, I will replace it.

There is a little sticker on the back of it, is there a screw behind it?

There's no screw behind the sticker but you do have to remove the volume knob. I found when I changed my 101's belts it was a good idea to use two toothpicks so I didn't scratch the chrome finish on them. Set the volume to 0 or 10 and start slowly.

They are incredibly easy to change the belts on and if the old belt has "gummed up" the pulleys, use a little alcohol on a cotton swab and gently clean the residue off.

    Happy mending!

I am so glad there is no screw back there, I would have hated to take it off as it is nearly impossible to put it back and have it look not tampered with.

I will follow the others suggestions

I know it is a picture but, what are your thoughts on the head and rollers based on the picture, I have attached?

All look quite clean to me. Only way to tell if it's good is when you test out a good recorded cassette and test out the auto reverse too. Personally I would still clean the head and the capstans too.

I agree with Buzbox. It looks very clean and of course I can't tell what condition the rubber is in but from this pic it looks good. If you need the manual let me know I have the PDF on my drive for the 100 series

Question: was the warbly wobbly sounding audio from the belt? I have a wm-702 that plays ok on reverse, but on forward it is wobbly sounding. Is this a belt? IMG_20180316_001754.jpg

Most likely you need to clean/recondition one of the pinch rollers. I've had success using Naptha for this.

I actually ended up using isopropyl alcohol, then a rubber restorer for my car's rubber. Worked well once I wiped it all down. At first it started eating tape. But after wiping more it plays. But it is still not working right. It's like the buttons are possessed. They don't work as intended.
