I had have the wm-2091 and the wm-EX49
Never opened them when I was young.
I really liked them, and at last I could find some for a reusable price. both with a belt issue.
So I had to open them, and saw minor differences except the looks.

Inside on both the pcb was written wm-2091, is this correct?

    Inside open wm-2091 wm-ex49
    2091 belt already removed

This is where i found the minor difference (or is some pink plastic missing?) don't mind the serial NO

Even the manual is telling me, the are almost none.

P.s. I hope to change the belts later this week.
And I think, for the wm-2091 I have to change the capacitors to.

Yup, basically identical! As you mentioned, capacitors tend to go bad on this model. I would re-cap both. Watch out for broken clutch gear and take-up reel gear (next to the motor), as well as faulty motors. You will know the clutch or reel gear is broken when the machine eats tapes or does not wind tape smoothly.

    internal components look same.
I have seen sony walkmans with different models share exact same internal components (like WM-10 and WM-30)

And the wm-2091 had a broken clutch gear How I placed the belts on both players And at the end I broke this to.

The wm-ex49 had no broken clutch, after changing the belt, the gears are running smooth. Next step is a re-cap for this player.
