Wondering if anyone has found an off-the-shelf silver metallic color that matches early 80’s Panasonic boomboxes?

I just bought an RX-5005 off eBay and it’s nearly perfect except for a noticeable scratch above the right front speaker. Normally, I just live with cosmetic imperfections, but this one bugs me.

Any advice on touching up a scratch would be greatly appreciated. What has worked for you?

I use plain silver from MoTip which seems to be the correct silver for many machines from the 80's...recently touched up the whole edge of a Technics SL-5 player and after a light polish the difference was very hard to see...but that was an edge, which if the shotline is straight, improves massivly.
But you could try to get some silver and do some mock up parts, see if the color matches...i can see that silver has big flocks and is very sparkly...you could try to get bright silver even in a rattle can....i just spray some in a small cup and use a small painters brush and magnifying glass to do touch ups...
Fact is that your eyes are drawn to the blackness on the silver, even with slight mismatch it will be a million times better...same for white spots/scratches on a black surface......
    Show us the result! :)

Sounds like a visit to a car accessory shop might be required. Many "Rattle cans" have the caps sprayed with the actual colour of the paint inside. Both my wife and I have Silver VAG cars yet they are noticeably different shades of silver. Regarding fine brushes you can also buy touch up paint in a small container with a brush in the lid.

Good luck. You just need to determine if the Panasonic is BMW, Ford, or VW silver.

Maybe a train/rc model shop is a better option...they have many different colors in small quantities, the MoTip was just a suggestion. Had some left after doing the rims on my car....
and besides that you can always add a bit of black to mix the color, or add flake to make it more bright....

Yes maybe for a car that brush is fine...i have fine paint brushes that only have two or three hairs on them and those hairs are very fine themselfs....so i can drop a miniscule amount of paint right in the cavity...that brush is way to thick to do small miniature touch ups...

But that is chrome not silver...that is not the same and if you put this on the silver paint it wouldn't look good....it's to shiny, like mirror finish. The silver has texture.

Molotow Chrome is used for the chrome plastic parts and works very well on other chrome parts too
