Sony PT-D1 Timer from 1983, the brochure is on page 17 of this thread. I think this was paired with some of the boomboxes along with component audio.

Yorx had some nicer audio in the 70's, mostly mid-level sourced from Hong Kong or Tawain, followed by mostly junk in the 80's. This was a neat looking find, the Yorx K3654, a nice looking little mini, I'd guess from around 78 or maybe even later. With MIC, earphone and AUX! This is feature rich but you probably have to hold down the record button to get AUX in through the speaker.

Were the first boomboxes really compact cassette players? I look for R2R with radios and it isn't easy to find them, most are cheaper models in the back pages of ancient audio magazines, I can't find the AKAI, TEAC, Pioneer Versions if they ever made them. Some did put a few models out, Crown, of Japan, had at least two, I finally got the suitcase version a few months ago but why wasn't this more popular? I'm guessing, just like casseivers, people were buying the separate components at home and didn't worry about recording radio while out and about.

you cannot beat free stuff, but $2 would be the next best thing, as in here:

I was looking for the prices on Linn Kan speakers: many moons ago these were the best upgrade for my second stereo. I sold my ProAc Responce 1sc for $1,200, bought these Linn Kans for $200 and the improvement to the SQ was un-believable!!!
