Hello again! I got another beautiful boombox giving me grief. The Magnavox D 8880 from 1986 is a really cool piece but in the process of getting to the cassette mechanism to clean melted belts, I screwed up routing for the tuner thread. I cannot find any sort of service manual online for it either after repeated searches. Any advice? Anyone know where I could find or buy a service manual? I would really love to get her running but as it stands I'll have to send her bits to the recycler unless I can get more information on how to route that dang thread correctly.
You can use the service manual of the Philips D8884, its basicly the same and has the wiring diagram for the tuner string on page 7. Should pop up on google. Good luck! ps that sm is in Dutch but pics are pics
That's fantastic news, thank you! And you are correct, pics are pics. If it works with Ikea furniture, it works with tuner thread diagrams. I'm stoked! I can't wait to get home and get it back together!
Alas there is too much slack. I might have to recut it but I'm a tad nervous about trying to be honest.
Don't cut it! It was made at a specific length and it should fit because it fitted before right?...And don't give up after the first try, eventually you will get there, to much slack means you missed a winding around the shaft...actually if wired right it should look like its a bit to short but this ment to be this way because the string needs tension, hence the spring at the end.....i've done dozens of tuner strings even without a manual.....just keep on winding....
Thankfully I didn't. I'm always really hesitant about any sort of destructive methods. I'm still stumped on routing though. Maybe I need more windings around the wheel. I'll keep futzing with it to see if I can't figure it out.
