Sup etc, glad to finally become a member of this forum. I'm not a boombox collector (or bergsprängare, "mountain blasters" as we call them in Sweden) per se but I own two now, an old Panasonic RX-FS410 which I rescued from the landfill and a new to me Hitachi 3D80 in in my view excellent condition.

The reason I'm registering here (I'm also a member of tapeheads) is your specific knowledge of boomboxes. And perhaps someone here can help with this:
The NOR/CrO2-switch on my new 3D80 doesn't seem to do anything. I notice no difference on the sound whatsoever, neither during playback nor record. In my Walkman, the switch definitely changes the sound.

Anyone of you guys own one of these and can corroborate on this?

When we were kids we always joked about these switches not working or it was like putting a bag over your head. I would try taping something on this box with the appropriate tape and the switch in the right position. Then I'd play it back and switch to see if there's a difference.

If there's no difference it might need some DeOxit or FaderLube (found at most guitar stores). These switches always get played with, for some reason, alot so it might be stuck in one position.
