Hey everyone, I’m from Germany and have been into portable CD players for quite a while now. My current lineup includes a Denon DCP-100 and a Sony D-145. I also recently picked up a Sony D-143, but it’s currently not working — that’s my ongoing project right now. I really enjoy listening to CDs, especially my favorite tracks from the 90s. That’s pretty much my main listening vibe. Looking forward to exchanging ideas and experiences with you all here!
Welcome to the forum, feel free to post your equipment, we love photos. CD's are getting hot over here, just like cassettes used to be. For $1 USD you can find hundreds of them, now collectors are looking for every version available and surprisingly the ones from music clubs like BMG/Columbia House actually go for a premium.
I remember when £8 each in a local second hand store seemed like a bargain. Earlier in the month, for old times sake, and because I was walking past HMV (the last remaining chain of media stores here in the U.K) I did spend £11.99 on a brand new CD; the Elvis EPIC compilation. Chart CDs were about the same price when I first got a CD player back in 1989. In contrast something like McDonalds has gone up about four fold.
Thanks for the warm welcome! I'd be happy to share my collection, if you can even call it a collection. I own a Denon DCP-100, which works perfectly. That's the one I use for listening to audio CDs at my desk. Unfortunately, I don't have any batteries for it, so it only runs on AC power. Sadly, a previous owner messed up the lid. The original Denon finish is gone, and some of the lettering is missing. I've been looking for a broken DCP-100 for ages so I could swap the lid. If anyone happens to have one they'd be willing to part with, please let me know. My Sony Discman D-145 is the one I use everywhere else. With two Eneloops it runs long enough that I can easily take it with me when I'm out and about. Not exactly vintage, but still a nice player: my Fiio DM13. I mainly use that one for audiobooks in MP3 format. And last but not least, there's the already mentioned broken D-143, which I'm still desperately trying to bring back to life and get the sound working properly again. That's pretty much it.
