So I'm currently working on a WM-55 which I plan on replacing the rollers in. Currently the A-side roller moves up and down freely on the plastic shaft and creates w & f when rubbing against the top of the assembly. Before I disassemble anything though, I wanted to know if there was a way to tell which direction the pin that holds the roller in place should be removed. I know on some models this doesn't matter, but I've also made the mistake before of removing it the wrong direction and then it never fits securely in again. I didn't see anything mentioned in the service manual about it but I'm more wondering if there's general advice about which way it should come out? Thanks in advance!
It almost always matters the way pin comes out, as it's press fitted only in one of the holes (typically the bottom one) not both. In units where the roller bracket is made of plastic, indeed it matters less from which side pin is pulled/pushed because the plastic hole will not wear out. With metal brackets however, after a couple of removals that press fit becomes elarged and will no longer keep the pin. However a small drop of glue can fix this problem even if it happens. On Wm-55 the pins are pressed on the bottom side, as in most other units.
I see, thanks for the info! On any machine I replaced the pinch roller on I drove them upwards from the bottom, so it looks like I've been doing it the right way this whole time. Good to know that the small drop of glue method is Valentin approved, I did have to use this once. The WM-55 is up and running incredibly smooth
