This will be the first place then I'll do ebay , facebook and canuckaudiomart.

I'm a collector of Sanyo JJ-P4x series past 1987 to 1992 .

I'm going to start offering units I've restored or simply put a belt in and got running
to the best of it's ability.
Anyone who has worked on these small units knows 'each one is different'

First item up for sale , FROM CANADA : SANYO JAPAN - JJ-P4 - NEW HARD CONCEPTION - SMALLEST PORTABLES EVER - CASSETTE TAPE 1987 FOR SALE
THIS UNIT WAS SERVICED APRIL 2026.

I BOUGHT THIS IN JAPAN THE LABEL ON BACK IS JAPANESE.
NEW BELT INSTALLED, OLD BELT WAS TURNED TO GREEN BLACK GOO*.

NEW PLASTIC COGS ON THE UPPER DRIVE DECK WERE INSTALLED
AS MANY OLD UNITS HAVE FAULTY PLASTIC THAT CRACKS / TEETH TEAR OFF FROM AGE / MATRIX OF PLASTIC USED. SOME ARE A NYLON TYPE THAT DO NOT BREAK. THE TRANSLUCENT TYPE ARE THE MOST PROBLEMATIC. WHEN ONE OR MORE OF THESE COGS TEETH BREAK IN SOME MANNER, IT CAUSES A HOST OF PROBLEMS LIKE NO AUTO-REVERSE, NO FF OR RWD.. ECT. POOR PERFORMANCE OVERALL.

THIS UNIT IS A THIN TYPE OF METAL THAT BENDS VERY EASILY
BUT IS SUPER SLICK AND LIGHT / SMALL. BEAUTIFUL ENGINEERING.
THIS UNIT IS ONLY TAPE PLAYER NO RADIO, NO BELLS AND WHISTLES
LIKE BASS EXTEND. BARE BONES.

I INCLUDE THE WHITE BATTERY CLIP ON FROM ANOTHER UNIT THAT WORKS WITH THIS UNIT BUT NOT THE ORIG BATTERY CLIP.
NO POWER ADAPTER IS INCLUDED - BUT EASY TO SOURCE.

AS SEEN IN THE VIDEO THE AUTO-REVERSE HAS SOME
INCONSISTENCY. BUT PROOF OF BOTH DIRECTIONS HAS BEEN
RECORDED AND SOME MORE PATIENCE IN FINDING THE ROOT OF THE ISSUE IS OBVIOUSLY POSSIBLE SO I'M SELLING THIS WITHOUT FULL
OPERATION GUARANTEED.

*THE GREEN SUBSTANCE IN OLD BELTS CAUSES AN ENAMEL BUILD UP
ON THE SENSITIVE BRASS COGS REQUIRING INTENSE , CAREFUL CLEANUP.
DEPENDING ON YOUR REGION YOUR UNIT MAY NOT HAVE THIS ISSUE. UNITS FROM JAPAN TEND TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM FROM THE BELTS.
THE 2ND ISSUE IS THE GUMSTICK BATTERY THAT PEOPLE FORGET
IS INSIDE THE UNIT AND PERHAPS MOST UNITS IF IGNORED SINCE THE 80S OR EARLY 90S, ARE FOUND WITH THE BATTERY , DESTROYED
AND PERHAPS CAUSING HAVOC INSIDE THE UNIT.
THIS MAKES MANY UNITS UNUSEABLE - BUT MANY TIMES
IT IS NOT FATAL AND CLEANS UP NICE.
LIKE ALL UNITS I SELL, I DISCONNECT THE GUMSTICK BATTERY COMPARTMENT UNLESS IT IS SPECIFICALLY REQUESTED - BUT I DO NOT EVER RECOMMEND THIS , AS THE GUMSTICK HAS POOR LIFE AND THE OUT OF SIGHT PROBLEM MAKES IT A TIMEBOMB.

Like most of these units, the more I use them after service the more they start purring , and I can see closer potential issues
the Auto Reverse is starting to work more, I think there is a bit of friction in the bottom plate that moves
the mode switch , so I will look closer to see how I can make it glide every time without this unknown
random resistance that causes it to hold mid switch of the reverse sometime sticking , sometimes going
back forward - - so this is a potential 'for sale' I would like to offer a unit that plays as intended without much
hassle- as a good working item , is predictable and stress free which these can be mainted as .
