Sony Discman - Are these the last models?

    This was the one to have if one wanted a super-slim player with MP3 gapless playback. I wanted one, but did not buy it after all because I switched to solid-state in the early 2002.

    The Panasonic SL-CT800 cannot play MP3 without gaps :(

    Yep, that's exactly right! I never used the MP3 capability, but I used many of the other features.

    I loved and cherished this unit for many years until it gave up the ghost. The FM radio went dead, and then it started burning through remotes. I think I had 3 remotes for it and all ended up breaking for some reason. Funny, you now see a whole slew of these iRiver slimX's on eBay for parts. I guess that speaks to their reliability.

    On the subject of both iRiver and solid-state players, iRiver actually still exists to this day. They now go under a different brand, and focus on super high-end lossless digital players.
