    Hi guys.

I'm repairing my dad's WM-5 and have encountered some problems.
I'm in the middle of assembly, PCB is not yet in place, and I tried to test run the player with external power source.
In the 'PLAY' mode everything seems to be working fine, but as I press REW or FF button, the motor works for a few seconds and then it stops. I can reset it with STOP button, and when I press FF (REW) again, the problem repeats. The time is not always the same, sometimes it works for 3 seconds, sometimes 5, 6,...
I have removed the belt and still same, so I am assuming that there is something wrong in the circuit. Since I don't have any knowledge about electronics, I was hoping that you could help me. Is this a common problem? I do have a basic multimeter and can do some measurements.

    Thanks.

it sounds more mechanical issue rather than a circuit board problem.
The central gear on wm-5 usually doesn't crack. I think if you disassemble this walkman, clean and lubricate it well most probably will work.

    Hi Boodokhan,

I did all that. Took it apart, cleaned with IPA and lubricated with watch oil. Mechanical part seems to be working flawless.

WM-5 is inside very alike the WM-2. as for ffwd and frew there's an opto-coupler on the mainboard for auto-stop wich only works correct when the pcb is in place. it's a gearwheel with strobe sticker glued on...

move pcb in place and you'll see - it works :wink2

    you're welcome :wink2

the often underrated WM-5 is one of my favourites, in fact it's a WM-2 "luxury-edition", with a great full metal housing. i love the little window with the volume behind...

Indeed, I really like the design and all-metal look :)
