Today it was time to replace the somewhat mediocre speaker drivers in the rather beautiful compo system featured recently here
As I said before, this is a really nice little compo with a very good (Now repaired) cassette deck!
The overall sound however was ok but just ok - bass was very light & tweeters were very 'Splashy' sounding like a lot of those early CD pressings, just not quite good enough to listen to long term :nono :nono :nono

Enter stage left: A brand new pair of 4" co-axial Panasonic speakers I snapped up for £6 years ago when big tits & used to scour the charity & pawn broker shops!!

These were boxed & never used & although I had nothing lined up for them I thought £6 was too good to pass up!!

5 years later & now collecting at a frantic pace it seems that it was time to dust down the box & see if the transplant was viable & whether the amp could drive them without placing it under any strain..................

A couple of mods included cutting out & shaping a new round thick cardboard seal which the old drivers had to make a tight seal to the cabinet fronts, that took us the longest cutting & very carefully gluing the 'Collars' to the new Panny drivers & re-mounting tightly into the speaker fronts!!

Next was simply to disable those overbright tweeters - the new units of course have a co-axial tweeter which I was guessing would be better quality than a stock cheapy tweeter from 1984

All that remained was to solder the existing leads to the new drivers & put them back together!!

Time to power up & listen to it - A great improvement with sweet highs & some proper bass at last :reelspin::reelspin: Nothing spectacular but I never expected or wanted to be stunned, it just sounds very nice now - I think I had the volume too high as the audio limiter on my Samsung S7 Edge was over compressing like it tends to do all too easily :banghead:

This is a really nice little stereo & am so glad I spent my £25 odd on it plus £6 for the
Panny drivers has ended up a little corker of a stereo
