So I ran into this issue with a WM-F15 that I am refurbishing. When powered with batteries or a 3v plug, the power stays on when idle. The power button is lit, even though there isn't a button pushed for the cassette or the radio function. So the batteries will just drain if they are kept in the Walkman. Otherwise it works flawlessly. Anyone run into this issue before ?

I found my problem. One of the wires was pinched.

After opening up any of these old electronics, it's very common to pinch the very small wires, usually after you do it once or twice, you learn to really be careful.
