crown csc640

I am guessing you have used deoxit in the selector switches and their internal switch/slide mechanisms? I had a weird problem like this on a different box which I thought may need an electronics wizard and a good thorough clean using deoxit sorted it out to my great relief. Of course it may be something more but I'd try this first.

I thought you would probably have already done this ... but thought it best to check as it is amazing what grime deoxit/servisol can shift from electrical contacts.

Hopefully somebody with more experience of this specific model can help you ... sadly not me though ... but I wish you best of luck as it is extremely annoying when all else works but one bit, especially the FM radio section.

1st of all I only have the crown 980 sm.pdf  I don't have any other crown pdf's.

I got mine down and I have not serviced it since I bought it and the Main function selector switch on the top Left hand side is goofy to not allow the tape or the radio to a proper Stereo sound - So I would guess that the switch would need to be un assembled and cleaned with emery cloth or something like that as you have already tried the spray to no avail.

I had to wiggle the switch to get it to work & the entire unit need cleaing of the dust and such but everything including the tape deck works in all functions.

Having said all that and if you don't mind waiting as I have other projects in waiting on my I can put this on my list of which radio to open next

This thread need a picture (old ones) and 1 today

Love the chunky build quality of these 70's recorders & the styling too - So very 70's  This era for me is really the forerunner of the big proper stereo's we all came to love - I think they still have a place in our hearts, but they are not quite yet at the stage where they really excite me if you know what I mean!!

Unisef made a similar model with speakers on the side too (Like the Sony model of the period) I would certainly buy one of either if they came up & were minty
