GF9696...

Got this from my good friend Meljak..it was and still is a mess..it was on the brink of death..no screws holding it together, all the sliders and switch covers missing, battery cover missing, cassette glass missing,no sound, just humming comming from the speakers, tape deck not working..replaced the sliders from a Scrap GF575,Switch covers from GF575,replaced some capacitors on the main board to get the sound working, replaced the belts on the deck ect..and the list goes on,its working but its not and will never be perfect, the cosmettics have just about had it,but i love the sound,i'm not really a fan of the 9090,91-92-94-95,i'm not a fan of their sound either, but the 9696 does'nt sound like them, sounds nice and loud, bass is beefy, not alot of distotion..lovely..anyhow...

woah so sorry,i forgot all about this thread, yes the camera is very forgiving..i have all the sliders now,all taken from a GF575,they all suit it pretty perfectly,i did have most but not all,but i remember scrapping 2 GF575 years ago,and i still had the sliders,so now its complete on the top, apart from 1 switch cover, the switches and sliders on the front i took from a scrap GF9191,and i got the battery cover from the 9191 too, fits perfect, all i need now is the glass for the cassette door, and one switch cover,i will probebly never find the glass, unless one will fit from a GF9494,but i love the 9494,if i got one,it would have to be in a real state for me to take bits from it..
But the 9696 is a beautiful radio, sound nice too..like i said,i'm not really a fan of these typesof sharp, but the 9494 and 9696 are an exception..

And..sorry richard, yes i remember when you got yours from germany,it was a nice box apart from the damage, ebay is really fvcked up,i've had lots of cr@p with them,i've give up with them..if i need a pinch roller mate,i will give you a shout, the one thats on it seems ok right now..
Still a nice radio I can vouch for that - mine isn't perfect but it's pretty decent, I fixed the tape which I was pleased about. They do sound quite 'phat' don't they? Not as bassy as the M70 but still very solid and a real nice treble too. Shame I didn't spot this thread sooner I've got a few switch tips and sliders for the 9494/9696 kicking around here. Cool
