Pioneer PK-R7AW

Hello Paul, congrats on winning the unit with orig. headphones. My R7AW the belt turned totally to goo... person who did repair said it was a mess to get all out and clean. The mechanics were not working smoothly on mine so person doing repair completely disassembled entire unit , re aligned everything, cleaned and greased/oiled and cleaned the circuit board and replaced some caps. He said it was a very difficult player to completely take apart and reassemble. I did have the orig. service manual which he has ( note this person is NO longer doing repairs) and never returned manual.
I did luckily get the player back and it functions flawlessly even the recording feature.
It has the most powerful amplifier of ANY Walkman I own!! VERY Excellent sounding player for its time and being a sport model this has to be the best sounding that was made.

Maybe if your lucky it will just be the belt and clean all the pulleys well. Take some pictures and share the inside of this beast with the forum.

I have been lucky in past year acquired another near perfect condition Red/Black PK-R7AW and a good condition Yellow and Black PK-5AW. It they did not weigh TWO TONS compared to ONE TON for early bricks ( this is the HEAVIEST PLAYER Ever made IMO ) I would love it on my belt all the time. At the gym it pulls my shorts off unless I tie the top tight. It is exercise enough just carrying it around.

I am basically looking for a person that would be able to bring this walkman up to scratch for me, hopefully in the UK.

probably the nicest quality walkman ever made but she's no looker.

Can anyone help here?

Hello everyone, I am new to the forum and would like to tell my experience with Dolby C. I am a collector of walkman, a blacksmith and a mechanical tecnical micromechanics and electronics. By combining my knowledge in the workplace have modified one of my D6C and one of my dd9. For D6C, with appropriate modifications, I got a halving of the wow and flutter, a recording and listening with dolby c, slightly over the original, and a perfect balance of the 2-channel recording is listening. For dd9, after appropriate modifications, I got the final disappearance of the mechanical problem that those who use intensively the dd9 knows very well, the perfect alignment in azimuth all 2 direziomi Scroll (obtained with a modification to support head), a perfect balance of the 2 channels and 2 in all flow directions, and a significant lowering of the wow and flutter. Result: I only listen to cassettes with Dolby C, I do not like the sound of the CD, the dd9 sounds slightly better than that recorded D6C. I made these changes for some of my clients.

I am pretty sure the Kenwoods were made by Aiwa. Kenwood made very little portable units themselves and apart from certain mp3 players, their portable units wee made by Sharp and Aiwa.

After finally solved all the problems that plague the players (such as the breaking of the gear, caused by the expansion of the metal inside, with regard to the wm-dc2) and bringing them to their full capacity, reducing the wow & flutter, improving the azimuth, (creating a double adjustment for azimuth to wm-dd9 who does not ), improving the level of output and so on. Running expect a test of listening, using headphones Grado SR-325i, the best one was the wm-dd9 closely followed by the WM-D6C, the third wm-dc2. The tapes were recorded with Dolby C from WM-D6C as player takes the second place. As a source directly connected to the WM-D6C, with the highest quality cables, has been used dvd changer Denon A11. It 'goes without saying that the tapes have played better than the original CD. How to listen without the vinyl crackles and pops.

Hi John, you are right those are all the models, except that the PK-F9 was a ghetto blaster and not a walkman per se, but it used some of the circuitry - that is my understanding. I has a copy of the service manual for the Pk-5AW and PK-R7AW in a pdf file if you want it John, just pm your email address again and I will send it to you. Also I have agreed to send the walkman off to doctor.walkman, which I will be doing in a few days time - I hope all goes well.

I acquired in past year this good condition Pioneer PK-F9 the LAST Pioneer Walkman made to my knowledge.   The heavy solid build is no longer there so many of parts inside must be plastic on this last model.  But the chrome work on it is beautiful.  And so VERY difficult to photograph showing its beauty.

Nice walkman. I've never seen one of those. Must be a pretty rare model. I've always liked Pioneer audio products. I seem to remember they made a line of CD players where the disc was inserted upside down. It was called a platter loading mechanism. The disc sat flat on a rubberised bed. According to pioneer, this stopped the disc from losing its shape while spinning and improved sound quality.
