Hi all,

What a nice idea, helping each other find service manuals and info, this is what the Internet is all about.

I'd like to ask if anyone has a Schematic (or Owner's / Service manual) for a Clairtone 7979 boombox.  I found one recently at my dump (!! ), works pretty good.

Something is wrong with the tape deck circuit board (transistor smoking ), trying to diagnose it.  It's a great unit, and turns out to be highly sought after - wow.

Any help would be much appreciated!

I think I'm ok finding my way around, usual forum with different topics, sub-topics and headings.

Really hope I can find a schematic for this beast, how would I even go about finding one to buy, let alone download?  Some people say they are not so hard to find, as they were sold with the units, but I can't find any online.  Wish me luck!

Do you own a Clairtone yourself?  Seems the cadillac is the 'Conian' 100, nice double-deck monster.  Seems my 7979 is a lot rarer though, wonder if anyone has a parts machine.....:^)

Thanks for the pics Cholo1, your box looks really great, pristine condition!  I must admit the pic I uploaded is not my actual box, I couldn't find a way to post a pic of mine, not quite as good shape as that one but it's very close.

Just bought a pack of 10 transistors off eBay hoping that will fix the tape deck problem, I think (hope) I've narrowed it down to that, wish me luck.......

Cholo, would you have a bigger picture of your box?  When I got my box the applique surrounding the cassette door and buttons was missing, if I had a big picture of one I could print and cut out my own, look really nice then.  I do like the sound of it too, never thought you could stuff 8" drivers into a boom box, amazing, sounds nice and deep and rich, really like the central balance volume and tone controls, and the clock is a nice touch too!

bellarmine just to let you know that there are many types of transistors and you need to know which ones you need before you just replace them. Also there must be a reason the transitor is smoking and you need to test further before you burn out other components.
