SG-309 H Sharp all in one information required.

Hi, I recently acquired this lovely system. At the back of the tone arm there is no counterweight, if you feel there seems to be a hole where something can be installed on the back, I was wondering if the counterweights are removable on these systems and if so where I may be able to find one?

Any comment / information is welcomed.TTSG

For counterweight try to use some rubber from a think hose or some toy wheel. Cut a slice of that (if the hole has same diameter as the pickup arm) and then you slide that thing back and forth until the arm is balanced properly. (that's the best weird idea which crossed my mind fast). That is if you don't find a counterweight on the market.

Speaking of cassette recorder part, there can be more nasty things. May be the transmission belt, maybe the clutch is too tight due to long inactivity or even the pinch roller can be worn out and rounded. I fixed some pinch rollers with some abrasive stuff. You take half millimeter off and if you do that nice and straight, it may work few years with original old roller.

Well, good luck. Nice system by the way.

I really want to fix it but I might be better using a separate tape player. What a shame.. the tape sounded really nice and clear before it started going funny.

Maybe it only needs a belt change (page 39 part 041) and cleaning (or change) of the pressure roller (page 38 part 004) .

These two parts are very important for the symptoms you described.

You are welcome mvickers03.

For the belt you can ask, member here in s2g ,Docp he is a specialist in belts.

I guess he will need to know the thickness and diameter  of the belt .

For the pressure roller if you can't find original part, which I think is an assembly with base, you'll have to improvise and use the old base and find a roller in the web (ebay) again you need to know diameter, height and  center pin thickness in which case becomes more complicated.

If the condition of pressure roller looks ok , a simple cleaning and change of belt may do the trick.

Hi there to all in this thread.

I have also just acquired one of these Sharps. I know this thread is quite a few months old, but I was just wondering if you had any success in restoring yours. With mine, the record player and radio works fine, but the tape deck plays very wobbly sound and then when I eject the cassette, I have to drag all the tape out of the player!

I also thought it looked like it should have a counterweight and that it was missing, but looking at all the photos of the model on the web makes me think that the arm was just designed like that and it just never really had one.

Anyway, any advice would greatly be appreciated. It's a long beast to have if the tape deck doesn't work, so I'm thinking of packing if off to the charity shop if it needs a lot of effort!

Thanks.

great sharp music system.over the last 6 years ive had numerous amounts of these, and i love them.sadly ever since i put more shelves etc in for my boomboxes i sadly no longer have any room for one.the part you described missing could be the plug where you used to be able to buy a record cleaning brush.similar to the tone arm, they screwed on to the unit behind the tone arm and swung out over the record to clean it.seen a few of these still fixed on the units.the belts arent as major to do as you think, just take things slow and be methodical.hope this helps
