Walkman W800 info to disassemble to replace belts

Hi, I wonder if someone could just tell me what screws to remove to take the case apart so that I can replace the belts.  I need the size for the belts and to purchase the belts also. Do I have to remove the doors and the battery compartment also?  This is my first attempt to take it apart so I want to do it right.  I'm new here and I hope I didn't post this in the wrong section. Thanks,  kayddid.

First look at the bottom of your WM-W800, you will see 8 screws. Open the 4 in the middle.

next step: look at the sides of the Walkman : you will find 2 tiny screws holding each door. unscrew those small screws and carefully remove the doors completely.

3rd step: there are 2 screws above the volume control : unscrew them and do the same on the opposite side

now pull the battery holder and remove the battery holder compartment.

4th step remove the side part : this is the part covering sides and bottom.

5: WM-W800 is on one side player and the other side recorder

look at the recorder side: 4 screws holding the recorder in its place: unscrew those 4 and flip the recorder and you will find where the belt and the movements are

6: look carefully where those 4 screws from the recorder body you unscrewed, the spot you remove each screw itself is a screw, you need to open these screws to get access to the player movement

6: if you have question or dont understand part of it let me know and I will try to place some picture for you to better explain it.

usually you will find the original belt glued or melted to the movement. Make sure to clean it nicely and very gently, otherwise you will hear some noises after installing new belts

By the way, you can buy belt for your Walkmans from DocP who is a very trusted member of this site. check for the topic : belts

good luck

Hi & Thank you WM-W800,

Your info is really helpful and I understand. as Minty suggested, I will take pics as I go.  I did print out your info and will get in touch with DocP also.  Thank you for replying so quickly.  I'll do surgery on my Walkman within the next week or so and will let you guys know how it went.  Again, thank you for your knowledge.

My pleasure sir

Hi, Minty, JamesRC550, DocP and WM-W800,

Thank you, all of you for your replies.  WM-W800, do you know the thickness and the length of these w800 square belts and also, how many belts per side?

As you can tell, I haven't gotten into my Sony yet....just curious on what I'll need and how many.  It will be interesting taking it apart with those very tiny screws.  When you gave me the order to dismantle, you said that there are screws within screws.  Do these also need to be unscrewed?  I guess I will know when I get that far...LOL.  I'm actually looking forward to doing this!    Thanks again for your instructions, couldn't and wouldn't even attempt this without them.

All you guys!!!!....I LOVE this site!

You need 2 belts for wm-w800

the belt is the same one for wm-10

i received a big package from Docp today. He will send you appropriate one. Docp is expert in Walkmans. As a matter of fact one time he rebuilt  a Walkman door from CD cover and interestingly that Walkman was a WM-W800 and he placed the picture in this site.

once you open the Walkman will see the screws

if you decide to open it and need help at any step let me know and will place picture and explanation to better help you

good luck
