Wanted Conion C-126F :-)

I already have the C-100F and I've been on the hunt for a C-126F. I had this radio when I was a kid and had to get rid of it at the time. I've been checking ebay like everyday. There's one one ebay from China but I'm not sure about it. It's been for sale for months now.

If anyone might know of someone selling I may just be interested. :-)

That one from China isn't just a one-off sale.  He has an unlimited supply it seems.  I bought one off him a couple of years back and he did a great job except he left the transformer board inside the radio during shipment (like I had asked him NOT to.)  It came loose and DESTROYED the tuning wheel on the tuner board, not to mention grenading the transformer board.  He sent me a new transformer board for free, but the radio was only good for parts after that kind of shipment.

Be very careful if you order from this gentleman in the future.

Just sayin'.

Sorry to here that kenpat. That had to suck major when you opened the box and saw that. I'm debating to buy it, but it's been hard finding the 126 anywhere the last few months. If I do buy it I'll post some pics here and share my experience. I appreciate the feedback

kenpat, the transformer board, is that a component inside the radio that should be removed for shipping purposes? I'm itching to buy this one. But I want to make sure the same thing doesn't happen to me

Yes, it's inside the boombox.  It's the heaviest thing inside an otherwise light box, and if it comes loose during shipment, you are farked.    I have also heard of opening the boombox and stuffing it with packing material to immobilize that board if it comes loose.

The board is fragile.  When I sold mine I sent it along in a separate box, packed very well and it still broke in half.  Not as bad as when the box was shipped to me from China (that one disintegrated into a dozen little pieces) but it's a pain to glue it back together and jumper the broken traces on the circuit board.

You can never over pack a boombox, in my opinion.

I went ahead and bit the bullet. I purchased the C-126 (the one without the colored radio dial). Being that shipping takes a while I should have it by mid to late FEB maybe March. I know I'm taking a chance. I figured if it comes damaged I'll see about contacting someone that is handy on repairing these, of course depending on the kind of damage. Those childhood memories is what made me go with it. I'll post here the status. Crossing my fingers.

So the 126 finally arrived. First thing I looked out for was any rattling in the box. No rattling. Open up the box and I was a little disappointed in the packaging. The seller said he'd use lots of bubble wrap but instead used really hard Styrofoam with no gaps between the box wall and the radio. Anyways I took the radio out and it looked like it was in one piece. I plugged it in and it comes on, but the power light flashes and it makes a humming noise as the sound goes in and out. I did noticed that the volts are set to 220 (I think). So I looked on the side to switch over to 120v but the little tab seems to be stuck. I don't want to force it. I've attached some pics. Is the voltage tab set correctly? Over all I'm some what pleased as the box is in decent condition and seems to have potential. Needs some cleaning. No cracks or missing pieces. Solid box so far from the outside, lol.

James, thanks for that feedback. I was able to rotate it with a flat head gently and it clicked over to 120. She powered up normal this time, but I noticed a slight humming noise in the background in any of the function positions. The right speaker isn't playing any sound, but I know they work because as I go through the functions I can hear the speaker crackle as I go through the functions indicating sound coming through. Right now its jamming on one channel/speaker. I did noticed also that the speaker balance seems to be stuck possibly on one speaker even though I can turn the knob left or right. The tape decks I haven't tried yet, but they look dried up. It seems over all it needs a good cleaning and a decent restore, but definitely potential there

I'm not sure of the voltage switch's position so I'm no help there.

The bigger question ..is that an ultrasound pic in front of the box?

If so you've got a far bigger deal being delivered soon

Very happy it arrived in one piece. I was actually surprised and getting ready to take a full lost.

LOL, yes that's an ultrasound but its from over a year ago so I'm out of the woods

Whoa. I'm gonna research and do lots of reading before I feel comfortable opening this puppy up

This is what I peeled off the whole front. Over 30 years of dust and scratches peeled right off. Brand spanking new underneath. Almost like she just sat in time. Jamming right now off of one channel but I'm happy

Further up there in my picture's of both front and back should you decide to open this, just you need to be aware that the power supply is soldered via wire's to the main board - or to better say there is no good way to separate the front from the back unless you remove the power supply from the back panel.  This is built cheaply without any plug in connections everything is soldered together - so saying that maybe a solder joint has come loose and or your switches are in need of some scrubbing of the contact's to regain your other channels sound

Dsming, have you contacted  the seller and explained the situation? If he described it as fully working, you might have a case.

maybe if I had sold you mine you wouldn't have that problem.

So the seller ended up compensating me $50 off of the price which was refunded already. His communication was good. Over all I wanted the radio so I was willing to take some kind hit, but I'm OK with it. It will be a good project for me  I'm still on the search for another 126
